This is a plug-in replacement for the original soldering pencil that came with my temperature controlled soldering station that had failed (element open circuit) after over a decade of use. I have been using this new part for several weeks with the soldering station, and it works just the same as the original one.

Recently developed shorts in my iron and sought out a replacement for my Weller station. This appears to be OEM and connected perfectly.Perhaps I will be able to use it to repair my old one… hmmm

Bought a secondhand WESD51 analog soldering station a while back but the pencil was lost in transit. Arrives new and for a better price than from somewhere like eBay.Lightweight with a comfortable grip, heats up fast, tips are easy to change even when hot (using pliers of course). Made of high-temperature plastic with a melt-resistant silicone cord. Unbeatable weller quality with spare parts and service from the manufacturer.

I suddenly needed a replacement for my original soldering pencil as I use it almost every day. I found this one and it is a perfect match for my soldering station. Easy to install and it works great just like the original one. The sleeve holding the solder tips is a bit tight to remove to change out the tips, but an little time will help to work it in. Great buy.

Worked like a champ, of cour$e. Here's a tip to make things last l-o-n-g-e-r! The way the PES51 is constructed, there is a chance any threaded area (or tip to metal) could and probably will seize up with age. Loctite makes an anti-seize lubricant (messy gray paste) that if applied to these tip contact parts will alleviate seizures...(soap and water will get it off your hands (-;

This is an exact replacement for the PES51 you've inevitably done something horrible to, and costs as much as half of the entire unit. I don't know why the are so pricy except that they can get away with it.It would be my recommendation that if you are seeking to replace your pencil, you should first contact the company to see if you qualify for a warranty replacement, or could otherwise obtain one for less. Obviously if you've burned the insulation or ripped the wires out or done something else foolish, then you are probably saddled with the steep cost.If all you want is a spare, I don't know if the price justifies itself. After a point it's almost more worth spending a little more and buying an entirely new soldering station so everything is equally "new." I don't think Apex Tools now is the same as Apex Tools 20 years ago in terms of survivability, but they do still make a reasonably good product.

My WES51 started acting up on me. The pen, PES51, wouldn't heat up unless I turned it but well over 600 degrees. I wasn't sure if it was the pen of the base station and just took a shot at buying this pen. The used one was great, box was all kinds of messed up, but the pen was in great shape and it working fantastic. Not sure how the original one broke, we will see how long this one lasts.

Treat this tool carefully - it will give excellent service to the experienced professional or hobbiest, but it will fail if you clean the tip by drowning the the tip and pencil in water or corrosive cleaners - always use tips in good condition, without rust or corrosion on the bottom of the tip where the thermocouple is inserted and the bottom outside surface where the heater surrounds the base of the tip - these conditions will cause the heater to overheat or become unstable or not work at all.

Great little pencil solderer, but note that the plug is not standard, it is one of those circular ones made to fit the Weller soldering station. This pencil is basically a replacement for that station setup. 50-watt gives you more power than most pencil solderers. And the tip is better steel than the cheapo ones so it lasts longer. If you use pencil solderers a lot, this is the one to get.Hope that helps.
