I have been using Weller soldering irons for over 50 years and have always valued them. I actually still have and use the first two Weller soldering irons (25 watt and 40 watt) that I bought around 1970. I also have a 67 watt Hakko soldering iron that I use for stained glass work. I have only used this new Weller 60 watt soldering iron a few times - but I have some comments on it already:- The iron is comfortable in the hand. The rubber grip feels nice and does not get too hot- The cord is thin and very flexible. It allows the iron to stay where you place it. the cord on my expensive ($100) Hakko is a stiff, 3-wire grounded cord and it can cause the hot iron to move on its own if you place it on a table without using a heavy iron holder. The cord is an ungrounded, two conductor cord - which is fine in this application. By the way, the iron is UL listed. I'm guessing alot of the cheap, Chinese soldering irons are not UL listed.- The cheap, little stand included with this kit is basic, but better than nothing. This should be included with every soldering iron sold - what does it cost the manufacturer - maybe 3 cents. I have a couple nice stands - but this little one is better than nothing if you are just starting out. And it actually works well in conjunction with the thin flexible cord on this iron.- I do like the two extra tips being included. So you have one wide "chisel" tip for heavier work and two fine tips (for soldering to a circuit board or something).- The "Halo" LED lights - useless in my opinion. My workshop is well lit and these LEDs don't really do anything to help. They do show that the iron is "plugged in" - which is nice. The lights may be helpful if you need to solder in a darker area though.I like using a higher wattage soldering iron even for delicate work - the higher temperature tip allows you to get the wires/circuit board up to soldering temperature quickly/ apply the solder/ and cool down quickly as opposed to holding a lower wattage iron on the joint for a long time and heating up the adjacent components.I think I'm going to like this soldering iron alot - we'll see if it holds up for 50+ years like my other Weller irons.

Didnt expect it, but after about 30 minutes of being plugged in and working fine, it stopped working. Does not heat up anymore. Very disappointing.

I bought this soldering iron about 18 months ago. I do guitar repair work. I have only used this iron maybe 5 times. A few days ago I was changing pickups in a guitar. It seemed to take longer than usual to heat up. But it did eventually get hot enough for me to use. When I finished, the results were not too good. For starters the plastic piece that covers the LED lights melted around the base of the iron over the LEDs. And as it took a while to heat up, I thought it was fine once it did, but it was way too hot once I started working with it and I fried the potentiometer I was soldering because it was too hot. And no I didn't hold the iron on it too long. Today the iron doesn't even get hot. Had it plugged in for 25 minutes and it's not even warm let alone hot. So now I'm looking for a new soldering iron. I definitely won't be buying another Weller.

I bought the 30 watt, and it worked great for the PC boards that I wanted to work on. I was building guitar effect pedals, and it was good. Then I wanted to do some work on a 3 way switch on my Epiphone Les Paul and I thought I could do it without taking the switch loose because the 30 watt would reach in there without any problem. Nope. it would not get hot enough because the switch lug was acting like a heat sink. The gun was a bad idea, lol. It melted the insulation so I had to take the switch out, anyway. The ground lug is a significant piece of metal, and I do not think it can be soldered on without a gun, but the 60 watt worked on the lighter wire lugs.

This is a good choice if the cheaper, temperature-controllable irons are unable to deliver enough heat. The larger tip on this iron acts as an effective heat reservoir, especially if you're not soldering PC boards. I use it for point-to-point wiring, and it's perfect for that. I do wish it had a temperature control. I've been using Weller soldering equipment since the 1950s, and I've never had a quality issue.

ce fer est polyvalent, assez pour souder des petits circuits au réparations plus grosses, soit sur des colliers, etc. Les lumièeres sont d'un plus, nous y voyons enfiin quelque chose lors de nos travaux de soudure
