Arrived broken even though it was wrapped correctly. I felt like it was broken before packaged

I originally bought this product to make stroopwafels - the most delicious dutch cookie - but I have had lots of fun making pizzelle cookies and ice cream cups. It heats up really fast, cooks evenly and is easy to clean. My only complain (which might be a problem with my technique) is I've been having a hard time getting the pizzelles or stroopwafels to come out in a perfectly circular shape. Hopefully, I can correct this problem with more practice but the cookies still taste delicious and are easy to make at home with this appliance.

G'day from Australia! When I read the fantastic reviews for this pizzelle maker, I knew this was the one to buy. My pizzelle maker arrived today and I was so excited tht I immediately started to use it. Like what previous reviewers said, this product is really fantastic. I sprayed the 1st 2 times cos I was afraid the pizzelles would stick. I didnt spray for the remaining pizzelles but they didnt stick!! The pizzelles were evenly cook, crispy and beautiful!! Love this product to bits! Unfortunately, this wonderful product came at a whopping price for me.I had to pay US$155 for shipping from USA to Australia. As Amazon can ship this item only within USA, I decided to use an International shipping company, based in USA. Amazon ships the item to the International shipping company in USA, then the International shipping company ships it to Australia. The Pizzelle BOX itself measures just 10.5inch x 10.5inch x 5.5in. But Amazon packaged it into a way TOO BIG PACKAGING box measuring 26in x 20in x 8.5in!! This is 2x the pizzelle box!!( Btw,there was no padding/ bubble wrap inside the packaging box to reduce any impact. This increases my bewilderment as to why it was packaged in such a humongous box) Becos the packaging box was so HUGE - the International shipping co, which bases its shipping charges based on VOLUME charged me a whopping USD$155 just to ship this item to Australia!! This is more than DOUBLE the shipping costs I expected to pay!! If the pizzelle box was packaged in a correct sized packaging box, my shipping charges from USA to Australia would have at the very least be halved!!edited @14th August 2009: Amazon has just partially reimbursed my inflated shipping costs and apologised for this error in packaging! My confidence in Amazon.com is thus restored and I'm happy to continue shopping in amazon.com in future.

I've never owned a pizzelle iron before, so I didn't know much about what to look for when purchasing one, or even where to buy one. I had checked Williams-Sonoma, my usual go-to place for kitchen gadgets, and they didn't have any. I checked Bed Bath & Beyond, and they had the CuisinArt one, but the cookie looked very small (3" as opposed to this irons 5"), and it did not have the handle that this machine has.I ordered this on Saturday night, and received it Tuesday, with the free shipping. Fastest free shipping I've ever had.I cannot express how much I *love* this iron already... It's an excellent appliance, heats up quickly, and following the recipe in the booklet it comes with, I'm done with a batch of cookies in under an hour... (that's warming the iron, melting the butter, measuring the ingredients, mixing and baking). My only advice to anyone buying this is to be absolutely sure to keep the kids at bay. I thought I had my iron far enough away from little fingers, but my son still managed to touch the outer casing of the iron while I was baking a batch. The outer casing gets extremely hot. Extremely hot. He learned to listen when told something is hot. He loves the cookies (as do I and my husband). I love experimenting with flavors, so we've had the traditional pizzelle, almond, lemon, and chocolate anise... I'm very much looking forward to the gingerbread pizzelles, as I'm a huge fan of gingerbread, the booklet comes with quite a few recipes, though I would suggest adding more anise to the traditional cookie, as does my husband who said the anise was barely noticable. His Italian Nana used to make these, so I'm sure he knows :)Great buy for the money, and paired with free shipping can't be beat. I'll be recommending this iron to anyone looking at buying a pizzelle iron.

UPDATE 5/16/2011It's been almost 5 years since I've purchased this pizzelle iron, and I'm happy to say that it's still functioning just as well as the first day I got it. We actually use this machine a lot more since we have kids now - these little wafer cookies are still a breeze to make...best part is that it's so fast that the kids don't have time to start whining "are they done yet?" Quick tip - use a mini cookie scoop to scoop out the batter. It's just the right amount to use, and you won't have to fiddle with two spoons when dropping the dough onto the griddle. The Norpro 25mm cookie scoop (a little over a teaspoon) is just the right size, so you don't have to worry about batter squeezing out through the sides.-----------------------------I love this pizzelle iron - it's fast, clean, and helps me make one mean pizzelle! I bought this for my husband for Valentine's Day (and yes, I did make the pizzelles for him - his favorite dessert!) and he's been asking for more pizzelles ever since! Another plus - the pizzelle sizes are big enough to make one scoop ice cream bowls - perfect for people like me who don't like a huge serving of dessert all at once (but who won't turn down a second serving if it was around..!) I would definitely buy this again!
