I work with a lot of vintage hard drives. Some work, some don't. Some are quiet, while some are very noisy. Since the description mentioned its use to detect problems with motors such as the ones in HVAC systems, I thought maybe it could pick up the spindle vibrations of old hard drives. So I ordered this vibration meter in hopes that it could help indicate the health of old hard drives when compared to known good and bad drives.Unfortunately, it was not sensitive to pick up the vibrations of a spinning hard drive, even the big full size full-height 5-1/4 drives. I don't fault the meter, my purpose was unusual, and I assume it works for its intended purpose. It does work -- the picture shown is the level of vibration in our clothes washer during the spin cycle.
