It isn't an expensive locator, but it does the trick and makes life easier for less. I don't like the length of the probe, because it isn't capable of making a turn down a 90. But, popping off a fitting isn't all that tough. I suggest noise canceling headphones to listen for the indication. Paid for itself the first time, due to the amount of clock digging around would have eaten up. Big props on the price for the ease of use and functionality, well worth the cost.

It worked well to find a drainage pipe that had been destroyed. You need to move the probe 1 foot at a time to make sure you do not lose it. Keep the wand parallel to the direction of the pipe, and away from the coil holder. The pipe was 1.5 ft below ground. Saved me a bunch of money.

For corregated pipe, tape to garden hose or drain cleaner cable. Probe cable is too flimsy for this type of pipe, so improvise.

Probe didn’t work well for me on bifurcated 4 inch PVC drainage lines. I tried feeding the line withe the probe a number of times but the line got held up at the junction. Water sprayed into the pipe didn’t get held up at the bifurcation so there wasn’t a blockage. I was searching for the end of the drainage pipe. I had a general idea of the approximate location but this device didn’t help.

I wanted to locate a pipe blockage, but apparently it is not designed for what I needed because it seems that the locator must be VERY close to the pipe to pick up a signal. I can understand how these guys don't allow returns, but it was a disappointment and waste of time and money.

My check valve on my well went bad and they had buried the wellhead. A metal detector wouldn't work because it was plastic pipe. I had no idea where it was because there was no plot plan or permit when the well was drilled. The well guys wanted at least $3,000 to excavate the property to find the wellhead. This tool did the trick I cut the pump loose snaked the wire down the pipe had to use a stiffer fish tape attached to the probe but I was able to trace the pipe and find the wellhead within a day. You definitely have to use the headphones, but it detected the pipe four feet below ground. AMAZING!!!!! THANKS I WOULD GIVE YOU MORE THAN FIVE STARS IF I COULD.

As is, this seems designed for smooth pipes as the line you feed in will get stuck and start looping in rough plastic drainage pipes. That said, I was able to make it work by attaching the probe to the end of a garden hose then feeding the hose into the drainage pipe (the hose pulling the probe along with it). Worked perfectly.
