These are pure garbage. If you want to play in bagged potting soil these might do. But I sheared 2 off 1st time in the drill. Sheared right off at the chuck. I don't even want to try the other 2, because I don't want to have to dig em back up. Oh well, I got what I paid for I guess, don't make my mistake.

After reading the mixed reviews on here, I decided to buy and test this bit out myself. I live in South Texas, where the soil tends to be closer to clay, so it can be tough digging down because of the dryness. I attached the bit to my Dewalt hand drill and used it to drill holes for some raised beds we made out of recycled wood. Bear in mind that I did this a few days after we had a week of heavy rain, so this made the task much easier. Some users posted some comments suggesting that the bit is not sturdy but I did not experience any issues using the bit. After a quick trial (after hitting a few rocks) I realized that this tool scrapes the dirt upwards, so it needs to be used to drill down a bit and then pull out the loose soil before continuing and drilling deeper. I did install an additional bed on very dry soil and had no issues either. Keep your hand sturdy when using this though as the drill might twist on you when it starts picking up the soil; if you’re not careful, you may injure your wrist.I really enjoyed the ease of use of this product - I’d venture to say it’s ideal for installing fence posts as the hole this makes is clean and deep enough to cover at least a 10” depth. You can extend the width by using a post-hole digger. If you’re installing 4x4 posts (like I did), you may need to adjust the hole for the corners of the 4x4. I used a sledge to push the supports for the boxes into the holes and it worked out really well.I also used this to dig holes for transplanting plants into soil. This tool does a great job of loosening soil. The clean up is also a breeze. I highly recommend this tool.

I used this wonderful drill attachment with a Kobalt drill to make 36" deep holes for 12-foot 4x4 fence posts in impossible West Virginia clay soil. Worked like a charm and as expected with ONE easy to handle caveat: it can hurt your arm if you dont hold the gun properly and it spins while you're gripping it. I recommend bracing the gun with your foot as your drill.PROs: excellent value, well built, bend resistant, digs symmetric holes even in tough, clay soilCONS: the torqueing motion of the drill can give you arm pain or cause an injury. Make sure to secure the gun with your foot while your drill so that it doesnt twist your arm if the drill catches on a rock in the dirt underneath.Summary: I would buy this tool again. Why spend $300-$500 on a post digger when you can spend $30?

Sturdy product with good finish. Perfect for planting small sapling trees, making holes for tomato and pepper transplant, etc. That said I would not recommend using it with a cordless drill unless you have very light soil. A proper auger can handle the torque but a cordless drill could easily be destroyed

My wife(the gardener) always complained about the soil around our property. It was difficult to get a shovel into the ground because of the clay and rock mixture. It was also hard on her feet, shoulders and legs. She saw an ad for this tool on the internet and thought it would be great to give it a try. It worked as advertised and she was thrilled. We used a battery powered drill when testing it. As I said before our soil was not great and it did the job, but if your soil is worse than ours, a hammer drill might be required.

So this is a great little auger if you have completely soft ground with no issues. However, if you have even the slightest of small rocks, clay or debris in the path, it does not like to get through them... Tip of mine just kept getting stopped by clay and the blade couldn't get down into it because of the 1.5in gap between the tip and blade. Just needs teeth on the tip! Overall great quality, width is great, and great for most drills.Tip for improvement: Needs teeth to be able to rip through obstacles to the depth you're wanting.
