Fuel quality is the single most important aspect of making a successful fire. To burn effectively the moisture content of firewood needs to be less than 20%, whether it’s being used in an open fire or a stove. Freshly felled timber can have a moisture content of between 30% and 60%, which when burnt can cause dangerous creosote build-up in chimneys and high emissions of particulates to the atmosphere.Using a moisture meter is a great way to check whether your wood will give you a safe and efficient burn, or if it needs further seasoning. I bought this for my wife to use when sourcing wood for her log burner. I read the reviews online before buying it and it seemed to get good reviews. It has a particular feature that the others lacked; the background colour on the screen changes from red to amber to green, according to whether the wood tested is too wet to burn, not very suitable as it's rather moist, or dry enough to be ideal for burning. This coloured background therefore makes it very easy to use, even in relative darkness, as there's no need to read the text shown on screen, you simply check the background colour! SO easy to use! Fool-proof! Additionally, it was a good price. So, highly recommended.

The moisture meter is likely broken. Readout does not show the whole number and nothing happens in probing the wood. The box it came in was somewhat mangled. I suspect damage in shipping as the box was not wrapped in bubble wrap. Now I have to figure out how to return and I'm hoping not to pay shipping
