We've been through power outages in So. Ca due to fires and winds. I've been using a small generator and wanted to know the wattage drawn from the critical items we plug in. Fridge, wifi, some lights etc. The fridge draws much less than I was estimating so this allows me to put a bit more strain on the generator without hurting things. Super affordable and once you enter your cost per KwH (from your statement) it calculates what it costs to run your device AND will tell you the draw in amps and watts. Very highly recommended

It's did a reasonable job the handful of times that used it since I bought it a year and a half ago. But now the display is messed up, it's been rendered useless and is heading to the electronics recycler.

I have been pugging in various things to test with and I get consistant results that are close enough to the wattage stated on packaging such as grow lights, speakers, space heater, etc. They don't match exact but it gives you a realistic idea to stay within a safe limit for a power strip for an outlet. NIce and bright. Make sure to read the instuctions on how to set the overload function to 1800 instead of the 3680 that it is defaulted to out of the box. I am happy with the size of the unit because I am tired of everyting being so small these days. I bought two and am going to order another. I saw another review on the Mchoi Hard Portable Case Compatible with Klein Tools 600V MM400 / MM300 Multimeter being a good fit for this unit and and bought those too. The fit really nice.

I have 3 identical to each other, so the quality control is consistent. accuracy checked against a Fluke 87V and V and A are within 5%, good enough for its purpose.the backlighting is a major plus over a killawatt. these meters are often placed in dark areas and are hard to see. plus you can get 3 of these for 1 killawatt.it has more functionality that a killawatt, which is sensitive to backvoltage from an AC motor, can damage it permanently, first it lost calibration, then one day it died due to being plugged in a vacuum cleaner. I used this one for that purpose now, and so far its survived, and cheap enough not worry about replacement.I like that you can set an overload warning, backlight timing, price etc., and it remembers the settings, so if you unplug it and transfer to another socket, it remembers all the settings. the killawatt loses all data when unplugged.a killawatt has a more intuitive button layout compared to this meter, but all functions and more are available.the biggest flaw is its not safety certified by ETL or UL etc., but that would increase the price much, despite being well made, safety is uncertain if left unattended and used near a 120V home socket's limit, 1800W. the reset button is scary, since you are resetting something that is also plugged into AC, best not to use something metallic, so they supply a plastic tool to press that button, that is easy to lose and is free standing. so minus 1 star. despite all that I did buy 3 of these.I unplug it when unattended.

Check appliances for energy use easily and fairly quickly. If you know a little about "electrical energy" and the terms associated with it, then you can use the information provided by the device. If you are not "literate" in electrical science, then you may not know what to do with the info.

The display is very bright and easy to read when lit up. The numbers all seem accurate enough for a $15 meter. The one thing you must understand, however, is that the elapsed time only records time where the plugged-in device is actually drawing current. Assume you have something that is on only sometimes, like a coffee pot or a refrigerator. When it is running it draws current and the meter reads it and tracks it and increments the "elapsed time" count. When the device is off (no coffee being brewed, the compressor not running, etc.) and the current draw is effectively zero. When that happens elapsed time is not incremented. This is not how, say, my model P4400 Kill-A-Watt meter works. On that one the elapsed time runs as long as the power meter is plugged in, regardless of whether or not the device plugged in to the power meter is drawing current. If you want to know the total watts used in a day, or the average usage rate, and the power use is intermittent, you must track the elapsed time yourself with the Power Meter Plug. Not a big burden, but be aware that that is how it works. I found no way to configure this behavior so I subtracted 1 star.Other than that one caveat I really liked it. Record high wattage, low wattage, total watts, cost estimate (you enter your local electricity average cost). For $15, well worth it.

Well got one of these engine, energy, vampires and you just need to track it down or your hobbyist and just like experimenting with electricity this tool cannot only tell you how well device is doing based upon current readings versus its specifications, but it could help you find that device. It’s just that energy vampire. You can’t get rid of good way of monitoring just how much energy in either cost watch amps course it gives you volts and frequency and hertz of the AC cycle Does a lot more than one would think meant for evaluating PowerDraw by household equipment the simple easy and Safeway easy to read screen and I found it a good not only diagnostic tool to see how well older equipment is still running and if it’s in spec, electrically for safety, but for the hobbyist It’s almost a must because it’s plug-and-play no wires to hook up just plug the device into the wall plug and then the device you want to power plugs into the face of the meter display is always on and working whenever plugged in. It does have a dimming feature when left alone but it’s a useful tool and a fun toy for those who want to run around the house just to see what all your home appliances pull in wattage over time amps at any given time it’s circuit breakers is adjustable to literally any level desired up to 25 can also be adjusted for quicker or slower blow and reset Ammps a timer on it can be set for exact PowerDraw over a 1 hour To 12 hour period you want to make measurements over specific time as well as lowest to highest reading as well as averaged and what you pay per kilowatt hour can be directly loaded for real time cost with devices being monitored a lot of neat features for under $10 and if you understand all your values, not only can you evaluate an appliance, but does make troubleshooting of certain equipment fairly easy to a fun gadget with actually uses
