Great set but some of them are too thin in spots which makes me worry about their longevity. Some are also easier to open and close than others so it’s hard to paint and lacquer them if they’re already very tight. Still a fun and unique project!

These arrived super fast and I'm pleased with the quality. They're nicely sanded, fit together snugly, but not too tight, and were clearly made with care.My daughter is painting them for me, since she's an artist I can't wait to see what she creates, I know it won't be traditional or run-of-the-mill, she's very creative so I'm sure it will be lovely...and made much easier by the good quality of these nesting dolls.

What i like about this matryoshka is how smooth it feels when painted on and how they leave you instructions on how to make sure you seal it correctly when you out them back together, and how to keep them to stay good as new. Which is understandable because it handmade and its natural wood and its kind of fragile but all nesting dolls are. But the package, the info of the person who made them, the care instructions and how smooth the design feels is perfect for painting and worth the money. I highly recommend this brand over every naked nesting doll set I've found.

My grandson loves dinosaurs so after a few drawing lessons - we took our time to draw a variety of dinosaurs on each nesting doll blank and then painted them. For 7 years old he did a great job & was quite proud of himself. The soft wood made it very easy to paint. We used both water colors and markers. I bought 4 more to gift my other grandsons & nephews for Christmas. I have a friend who said she can't wait to gift to her artistic 12-year old to give it a whirl. Actually I think these would be enjoyed by all ages!

I decided to add an update. Should have done this some time ago but finally getting around to it. I used artist-grade colored pencils and Micron to create my set and loved this wood to work on. Both the pencils and pen go on well because to wood is so well prepared. I am know going to get another set and make some more!Each piece of the Matryoshka is sanded beautifully and there are no knots or glaring imperfections. They are already lightly marked with a small pencil line so you know where the tops and bottoms should line up. They were packed in bubble wrap in a very nice and sturdy box. I am a colored pencil artist and am finishing a set that has wood that's nowhere near the quality of this one so I'm looking forward to working with this. I would definitely recommend this product!
