I've bought a few of these over the years and all of them were robust and well made. This one is no exception. In addition to being on par with other, quality fire starters, this one comes with the gas rated Teflon sealing tape used to assemble it, a side port for fireplaces that may need a 90 degree configuration and a port plug to plug your unused side or front port. It also comes with the port plug installation tool. It's got everything you need to replace your existing starter except the pipe wrench/pliers necessary to remove the old one and then install the new one.You can see from my pictures that this is a great, well made product that comes with extras you won't find included with other starters. That makes it a good value and a product I would recommend to family and friends.

My original lighter had 4 large holes that made it difficult to ignite logs efficiently, so this is an immediate upgrade.The tinier holes actually push the gas all the way to the end instead of just the first few holes, like my original lighter.As long as you're careful replacing your current lighter, you will be happy with this.

I moved into a new place with a fireplace and absolutely love it. The log lighter that was in there has seen better days. It was corroded and slightly bent. It was definitely time for a new one. I ordered this and it arrived in just a few days. It was well packaged and arrived undamaged. Just some minor assembly was needed since it comes almost completed unassemebed.The burner pipe is threaded on both ends, with one being sealed and the other open. The open end slips into the mixer. Make sure you apply the teflon tape. Rotating it face upwards in the fireplace did require some muscle since it's a very tight fit. Gripping the sealed end with a good set of pliers and twisting the the mixer will get it done. Once assembled slip it onto the gas pipe.Again it's a very tight fit and will take a little finagling to get it connected facing the direction you want. Once that was done I screwed in the mixer plug and then adjusted the shutter on the mixer. It's pretty straightforward to set up.It works perfectly and I used it so light a fire the same night it arrived. My only small complaint is I wish the holes for gas extended another inch and a half or so. That being said there are still plenty of holes for gas.This should last a good long time and I'm very happy to have used this to replace the old lighter!

I have a gas log fireplace, which I start with long fireplace matches that are held in a brass container. I had believed that this item would be a replacement for the matches, like an oversized extended butane lighter. Either I was naive or did not read the description well, as I did not realize how this item fully works. Having no instructions did not aid my comprehension.Apparently, this device is meant to be used to start a wood burning fireplace, which would also have a natural gas vent plumbed nearby. I do not possess a wood burning fireplace nor had I intended to contact a plumber to install a natural gas appliance. The fault is partly mine, but the description could have been better at the time of order.Overall, these are heavy duty components that would seem to provide an easier way to get a wood burning fireplace started. The parts did fit together well, so the threading works for the parts.
