How to Use the Gas Valve Key?

With just a twist of your wrist you can turn on your gas fireplace with our gas valve key.

Simply insert the key into the escutcheon (which is the protective cover for your gas valve stem), then twist the key in order to open and close the valve. Remember to apply the rule "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey" - turning the key to the left will open the valve (turn on the gas). Afterward, you'll simply turn the key to the right to close the valve (shut off the gas).

Don't let a missing valve key keep you from lighting up the night!

I’ve purchased probably four or five of these gas keys from Home Depot, Target & WallMart over the years and they all strip or the keys crack in less than a month. This seems much much stronger and thanks to the quality of this & doesn’t look like I’ll have to worry about it for years!!!

I love my fireplace and every time I use it, bending down to turn on the gas gets getting harder and harder. Then I saw they had this and I didn't wait one second to buy it. I love it so much it is so much easier starting the fireplace now. Your knees will thankyou!

The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is because the length of the 5/16 shoulder would not allow me to get on the 1/4 valve that I have. I cut off the 5/16 part and it works perfectly. I can now reach the shut off valve beside the fireplace where I have installed a bookcase.

I recently bought a house with a gas fireplace. The previous sellers were nice enough to allow me to buy my own gas key (they did not give me their gas key so I had to buy one haha). After looking at multiple options on Amazon (yes I even look through reviews on a simple item such as a gas key), I decided to give this one a try. The gas shutoff for the fireplace is located in the floor next to it so I was unsure what length to get, opting to go for a longer one to be safe. This product was perfect. High quality and durable. I had no issue using this to turn on the gas after closing on the house. Worked great again to shut off the gas for the summer.Overall, this is a high quality and durable product made with strong materials. If you need a gas key, this is a great choice and will get your job done over and over again without any issues.Note: I paid for this and believe it is worth the price. No one asked me to do this review.

I got this key to replace a long one that just stuck out too far. This is a perfect size, since my valve is just inside the wall. The bronze goes with the fire pit block color, although the chrome versions would look good too. It's made of metal, and very sturdy.Reviews and questions on other keys asked about dimensions, so here are some photos with rulers and notes. The key is 3 inches from the tip to before the handle. The handle is 1 inch, so the full length is 4 inches. (The camera angle makes it look a little longer than 4").But, the important distances are from where the valve stem lands inside the key tip, to the handle. This is the farthest it will reach and still work. That is, if your valve is 3" inside the wall, this will just touch it, but won't grab it. So it's more like 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" maximum reach.I have a 1/4" valve, so this key works great. It has a solid feel, gets onto the valve the full 1/2" depth, and feels correct turning it on and off.The 5/16" valve is a little bit dicier. The depth is only 3/16", so you'll definitely need to reach the valve and get the key on it as much as possible. Even then, that's not a lot to grip, so it may tend to roll off.For 1/4" valves, I played some games with my socket set:One person had a valve where the key didn't quite reach it, so it would roll instead of gripping. You could add a 1/4" drive socket extension to it, and make it as long as you need. This works well, but the key won't "hold" the extension like a socket wrench, so it can pull off. The little 1" extension is cute, but if it's inside, it could get left in there when the key is pulled out. For me, the 2" extension stuck out of the wall a little, so I could grab it if the key came off it.Finally, before the key arrived, I had made my own out of a few socket parts. A metric 18 mm socket did well as a handle grip, and I probably never used it for anything else. Add a 1/4" to 3/8" adapter, the 2" extension, and I had a great little key! Granted, it had a low WAF, so we bought this official one.(Edit: I edited a couple words, and added a zoomed image of the dimensions.)
