It is very inconvenient to reach up to the windshield while driving to push the mute button on your detector. This solves that issue with the ability to mount it at a place convenient for you. The LED light illuminates to confirm operation and detection and the mute button silences the alert just as the button on the detector does. It worked perfectly for my application and I would call it a must have accessory.

Used this kit to hardwire my Uniden R7. There’s plenty of slack for the setup I intended, but I had to deduct one star because the kit did not come with a fuse tap or an on/off switch. Not a dealbreaker.I’d recommend the kit!

Using with an R3 in an E66. This particular vehicle has a coated windshield with a limited area left untreated specifically for a detector.... Unfortunately that area is at the dash level and not up high where something like a blend mount and mirror tap would be ideal. This solution allows me to hide the cord much easier and although I have gotten my settings on point essentially eliminating false alarms ... Being able to mute and dim remotely is a nice feature

I bought two of these this for the R8 one for the bike, one for the car. I disliked having the power cable dangling from the mirror to the 12V plug. Nice clean installation. I actually hid mute/alert box as I didn't need it in the vehicle. It is useful though on the bike because of my riding position, I cannot see the display on the unit.

Works as it should. This worked extraordinarily well in my car as I had a factory insert of my dash that this fit perfectly into. Helped hide the ugly cord from draping over my dash and left a clean install.

Wiring was just about 1" short to allow an install in my XT5 as I wanted. the velcro pad supplied with it for mounting has very weak adhesive and I will have to reapply later on. Other than that, it functions as designed and looks good in the vehicle.

I spent a little time and effort hiding wires and making good connections inside the dash, then mounted the little box in a discrete spot with the double-sided tape and no wires showing. The kit has a fuse in the power lead in case I made a mistake or something gets damaged. I'd previously added a tap for accessory wires connected to the power outlet in the dash, but the much smaller wire in the kit needs an appropriately-sized fuse to protect it.The cable for the detector is easily long enough to reach across to route up inside the A-pillar trim and access to the center over the mirror if needed. My nothing-showing stealth dash mount has most of that wire coiled up safely inside the dash itself. It's there ready should I change my mind. The good news -- It works as expected. There's a power LED, plus an activity LED indicator. I have yet to try the 'mute' button, since I'm going through the initial steps of driving around and letting the R7 learn and memorize the local radar speed signs. Even with the latest version of Uniden's location database, there are still some local sources that are getting discovered and memorized. Bottom line is that all seems to be working the way it's intended. The package comes with a pad of 3M double-side foam tape for mounting. My long-term success with using it to hold things in a hot (or seriously cold) car interior is mixed at best, So far so god in the first few weeks of fall weather. The little box doesn't readily split open, so there are limited options for a more secure mounting method. I have the little wire bundle passing through a not-quite-large enough relief in a trim panel, so it's pinched tightly but not enough to damage the wires. That's carrying most of the strain, so the tape just needs to support it enough to keep it from rotating.FWIW, I'm not at all afraid of DIY projects, including fabricating my own custom gadgets. That said, I just couldn't justify gathering the internal parts and pieces needed to build one of these custom for the car. Rather, this one fits with no modification to the car itself, so it will come out if/when needed leaving no evidence it was ever installed. For those reasons, this is a very good value for me.

I have used many kits to hard wire my radar detector. The weakest point in all the ones I have used, is the sturdiness of the cord and the modular plug. I have had a few instances where the radar mount has dislodged from the windshield and when this does, the wire is ripped from the plug. I didn’t really need the cigarette lighter adapter or the remote mute function. The suction mount is the same as the original and works better than the regular flimsy ones, however it’s not full proof. I just wanted the cable for how it is constructed to the modular plug. It has fallen once since install with no issues at all. Pricy for just the cable but very happy with the construction.

The kit should include all pieces with he price it is. Had to purchase a fuse tap. Easy to install and hide the wires. Price is a bit high for what you get. Otherwise good product and decent quality.

I wanted a hardwire kit for my Uniden R3 because I was tired of having the power plug cord dangling from the windshield and getting in the way. (Why else, right?)I decided to go with the Uniden Kit because it has a silence button making it convenient to mute the unit when necessary.Installation is relatively easy especially if you have a fuse box near the driverside dashboard by the A Pillar, like on my Sierra. I just slid the flat telephone wire type cord under the ceiling and door trim using a plastic panel tool to the fuse box. If you purchase a tap wire setup for your type of fuse you just find a switched circuit fuse, pull it, plug in the tap, replace the fuse in the bottom slot of the tap, and your radar detector fuse in the top slot of the tap, and connect it to the red wire on the kit. Connect the black wire to any good ground screw, bolt or nut and you're done. I used the velcro that came with the unit and located the button box on the side of the console by the leg well where it is easy to reach and discrete. The unit works well and I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it to a friend.
