The diameter on the collar should match this lens but there are 4 small screws along the circumference of the lens that prevent this, even with the foam. The collar can’t be clamped shut since it doesn’t reach all the way around. Unknown if this is also true for the mark II version of this lens.

After finding a crazy deal on a 35-350mm on eBay, I was only missing a tripod ring. Now this lens is by no means new, so finding one that said it would fit was super difficult unless I wanted to send Canon a bunch more of my money. Even though the listing doesn't specifically say that it fits, I started researching and doing some cross-referencing and then took a chance. Luckily it fit like a glove and has be performing flawlessly!

My only gripe is that the base plate was loose.I needed to buy an Allen wrench to ensure that it was tightwith both fasteners. That's the reason why I rated it 4 out 5 stars. It should have been tight to start with and not require an Allen wrench purchase.OEM Canon's is one piece. On the other hand OEM Canon's is part plastic Which breaks if you drop it.This one is all aluminum that won't breakIt balances my lens and camera on the tripod as advertised. Some other reviewers said it wouldn't align correctly for vertical pictures.I had no problem getting vertical alignment. You just have to take your time, watch where it lines up and notrush or force it.Other reviewers said it wouldn't work with their tripod base plateI had no problem with the base plate on my tripod.Secured to the support ring with no problem andwas firm and steady on my tripod.Just tell the workers back in China to make sure that the Allen wrench fasteners are tight before theypackage it.If you use Canon's big glass you need this if OEM tripod support ring doesn't come with the lens.Or if you break the original.Your pictures will thank you.

I was given this lens by a newspaper that no longer wanted/needed it but they did not have the original tripod collar when it was given to me. This item looked like a perfect, fully functional replacement. I have only had this product for two weeks now(shipping was a little slow) but so far it has been perfect. It clamped onto my lens firmly and held it securely while I attempted to budge the lens and hasn't moved after two weeks of hobby photography use almost daily. The inside has a nice foam that clamps without damaging the lens and the construction seems high quality. The mounting flat has two holes just like the original and the thumb screw locked right down on set-up. The color is slightly off from the lens, but that is not something I care about or that anyone will notice unless looking for it. If it develops a problem I will edit this review but as long as there is no edit, you know this mounting ring is still working fantastic. Shipping was a terrible wait but for such a high quality item at such a reasonable price, it was worth the wait.

This mount ring will mount your lens to a tripod and hold it in place. However, in order to change from landscape to portrait mode, it does not glide seamlessly like the Canon. You practically have to take it off to change orientations. This will make it difficult to use in a sporting event. Three stars for the considerably lower price and for what it does do.9-5-13 Update:I just used the mount ring for the second time and the bolt would not tighten enough to hold it to the lens so I had to use vice grips to tighten it. When I tried to loosen the bold to take the mount ring off the camera (with the vice grips as it would not budge), the bolt snapped in half, rendering the unit useless. This was not well made and did now work as anticipated. I am now without a mount ring so will probably be forced to buy the expensive one from Canon.
