I bought many of regular canisters, but had to buy these as well. A couple of spots I cut holes to install canisters were on bad spots. I found there was an additional across beam on top of rails. So, the regular tall ones never can get into the tight space. These helped me to install lights where I wanted; even if I had to fix the holes to make a little smaller. Since all canister makers make the canisters in different diameters, some larger than others. The holes I made for was about 1/2" bigger, so I had to fix. If all canister manufacturers get together, and agree on a size, that that would help consumers a lot.

We’ve had these recessed light canisters installed for a couple years. Easy initial install and no issues. Definitely recommend and large diameter hole cutter.
