I purchased this used from Amazon, as an open box return directly from Amazon. When it arrives there was a sticker saying "inspected". All 8 tied down straps were missing from the package, clearly the person who originally purchased it had returned it and kept the straps.I was going to return this to Amazon, but contacted Thule customer service first, and Thule offered to send me the straps free of charge!! So 5/5 to Thule for amazing customer service and 1/5 to Amazon for selling poorly inspected used merchandise.

Securely mounts to the round bars that are standard on my Space Trailer and provides a more secure attachment for 2 kayaks and a whitewater canoe. Easy load with greater balancing of boats in the cradle like structure while strapping them in place. Easy load with only one person!

I was disappointed to learn how hard it is to secure 2 Kayaks, takes too long. In addition, kayaks are secure that well; a bit too wobbly and not securing well. Depending on the kayak size and shape, one of my 14 ft kayaks tends to move and fall our of place, especially when wet and no matter how well I secure straps.OK for 1 Kayak though.

Very nice. I could list everything I like, it would take a while. It's sturdy, feels solid, has nice rubber, appears to hold everything. Definetly not junk. Appears to fit factory crossbar, will update in spring, after it's been used numerous times. The only thing I don't like is that the thumb screws are easily removed. Meaning any thief can just walk up and take it with no tools. That was kind of a surprise, and I'm going to have to add a bike lock for that purpose, meaning more money spent and less weight I can load. With the factory cross bars, I am close to my limit with 2 kayaks.I plan to use an suv which does not have tow hooks. I know look harder. They don't exist. There's not even a pop out to reveal bolt holes for tow eyes. So, straps it is. I went with Cajun Tie Downs. Made in Louisiana, available on amazon, way cheaper than the thule stuff, and they respond to your questions. I don't believe much. But if a cajun says it will hold, believe dat.

I went back and forth looking at cheaper models because I really didn't want to spend the money. After reading multiple reviews I jumped in with both feet and haven't looked back. 1) High Quality, 2) Super Easy to Install, 3) Installs Very Quickly. My kayaks are heavy, 59 lbs. each and 11 feet long. The Compass holds the weight very well. I live in Nevada and have to travel the highway to get to Lake Mead where we use our Kayaks. Driving 75 miles per hour they held strong. I looked at other models, compared and compared for weeks and I am so glad I bought these. High quality and worth the money

Love these! Perfect for carrying kayaks. The only thing is because you are placing the kayaks in the middle of the vehicle, it makes it more difficult if you are short, cannot hold a kayak over your head, or if on an suv.

The lower bar was too short to hold the kayak. Could not get the kayak to rest on it.It should be at least another 6 inches longer. Also, if you try to push the kayak up on it, you can't because the lower bar is made of is rubber and doesn't allow the kayak to slide. It's an ok carrier if you are strong enough to lift it into place and if the kayak is narrow enough to fit the short base.

Major Likes:- looks like a plastic rack but actually has a sturdy steel subframe.- padding is great quality that should last and protect well.- comes with 2 racks to support 2 kayaks with 4 quality straps and bow/stern tiedowns.- good value for the price. Some additional dimensions are shown in picture.Minor dislikes:- Little cumbersome to install, but once fitted, loosten nuts on one side to swing bottom brackets out of the way to remove. Next time you attach it, the loose bits are held in place by one bolt each side.- I'm wrapping my oval rails with cut to length bicycle tube for extra protection and grip.Hope this helps....

I've only used them to carry a single kayak but it makes it easy to get it on and off of the car. Can't wait to double it up!

Doesn’t fit my factory Subaru bars as well as I’d like, but they do fit and work well. I like the ability to carry in various configurations. Very nice setup.

Odd title for a 4 star review no? It's really a 3.5, read on.....The carrier itself is very nice. The loops to hold the straps are really handy and as a whole it's well built. The positives: mostly well thought out, well built, thick rubber that looks like it'll hold up, fairly low wind noise (it does add a whistle, but they all add something), converts from a single to a double to flat, straps buckles have a nice rubber guard (wouldn't be without them after having them if you like how your car looks!), those loops really are handy. But you pay a premium price for this and that's where I think it starts to loose it's glimmer.Changing the angle of the middle bar isn't difficult, but it's not great. Minor complaint. There is no locking option, I knew this before, but combined with some of the following shortfalls, it's a larger complaint now than I imagined. I knew how the system was designed to work, but what you don't know until you have it in hand is how the cross bar clamps will fit. I have a Subaru Outback with their version of the Aerodynamic cross bars, thicker in the front than the rear. For this style bar, the clamps are not good.I'm not one to complain without looking for solutions first, I have been in contact with Thule CS and they wanted pictures and an explanation as to why I was unhappy with their universal clamps. They still claim it's appropriately fitting. Without the option to lock this, their clamps are flat with small rectangular cut-outs for square bars. With non-consistent shaped bars, you're left to try and evenly tighten down parts that naturally want to rock because they don't sit flush anywhere. After installing, using and leaving it on for a few days, I checked the knobs for tightness, they were all loosening up.As designed with my crossbars, it needs to be taken on and off with each use. Not what I expect when paying a premium price. However, with all that said, I like the unit enough and can't find another with the same versatility. My solution will be to machine my own clamps from aluminum that uses allen head screws from the top. It won't be truly locked, but they'll need tools to get it off and I'm assuming my fit will be much more secure. Once I'm happy with the design, I'll have them anodized black so that they don't stand out.I may also send CS a picture of them so that they can see how a few changes to their design could make this the gold standard of non-sliding double/adjustable kayak carriers. The brackets I'm making could be made out of plastic and included for next to no cost when manufactured in quantity.A soon to be self made happy customer.
