This thermometer measures temperatures from -40- to 150 degrees Celsius (-40- to 300-degrees Fahrenheit), with an accuracy of +/ -1.8 degrees Fahrenheit from 14- to 212-degrees and +/- 3.6-degrees outside this range. An immersible air/liquid temperature probe is waterproof and is attached by a 10-foot cable. A 10-second sampling rate provides quick, accurate results. Suitable for use in laboratories, factories, and other temperature-sensitive environments. Requires one (1) AAA battery (included).

Initially seemed like a great product, but stopped working after a month, just outside the return window.

I last purchased this item on April 18, 2019. Here it is November 29, 2024 and the unit just died on me. I changed the battery, but the thermometer appears to be tango uniform. I used it a lot. I depended on it. It has a very long external probe and that’s why I bought it. If I do the math, I guess it’s not such a bad deal that it cost me four dollars per year to have this thing working. That’s only $.33 per month, but still… I expected better from Taylor since they claim to have been in business since 1951. Abraham Lincoln was still alive. That’s a long time, so I expected the thermometer also to work a long time. Three stars for crapping out on me.

If you brew and want to improve your beer, you need to have accurate temperature control. This thermometer is terrific, it is easy to use, easy to sanitize and gives immediate readings. I have purchased these items multiple times, I think they are brilliant value and the battery lasts a long time. Very highly recommended!!

Purchased to monitor work Freezer and Fridge ,and to alert me if temperatures get too high or low.I was not able to get it set up properly for my needs and was about to return it. Customer support ( in a foreign country) got it working correctly after many emails back and forth and finally them logging into the device to set it up correctly. I would now recommend and will purchase another one for the next Fridge/freezer.I purchased 2 separate probes , one for each unit.- I now get the alerts exactly as I set them.Definitely worth the price!

I too use this thermometer for brewing. I have used it to measure both mash temperature and post-chiller temperature into the fermenting bucket. It is easy to mount on the wall, and very sturdy. It is within one degree of my Thermapen, so I trust its accuracy.I have kept it submerged for hours (mash & sparge, plus sitting in spent grain inside the cooler), and never had any water penetration at all. The only time I have had a problem it was of my own doing (accidentally yanked the cord way too hard) causing the wire to break. But since they are relatively inexpensive, I just ordered a new one. Overall great thermometer, highly recommend.

It is great that this unit covers a wider temperature range than most of its type, and based on my tests, it is within a half degree F from freezing to boiling. It should have an ON/Off switch, although energy use is low enough that the battery should last over 2 years if it is left in. The user guide is microscopically small. It indicates that the unit is very flexible and could be used as a timer, etc. But it refers you to an engineering bulletin that cannot be found anywhere. It's also just silly that it doesn't have a switch to allow a display of degrees F or C.I'm also concerned about its reliability, given the findings of other reviewers.

This is my second Taylor 9940N. The first is still going strong but I wanted a second so I could measure 2 things at once. I use them in my dyeing process. This is a plain-Jane thermometer without any bells or whistles. You just pop the probe into the liquid and watch the digital display move to the temperature of the liquid. The back of the unit is magnetized which holds it in place. The probe cord is VERY long...sometimes too long for the reach and I have to clip the excess back with a rubber band or other device to keep it from getting in the way. The longer cord is handy, though, when I dye in the oven. I place the probe in the liquid, cover the pan, and run the cord out the oven door (pinching it with the door). The rubbery cord has not shown any sign of meltdown and I run the oven up to 350-400 degrees. I'm happy with these thermometers. They are accurate, durable, and easy to read.

I ahve purchased several other digital thermometers since I started brewing. None of them stand up. They either die easily from being submerged, or the thin cable gets kinked easily, or the cable melts through. That hasn't been the case with this thermometer. I have used it for about 6 brew days, and it's still going very strong. The cable is nice and thick, and very heat resistant. I accidentally let it dangle too close to my burner (was practically in the flame), and it scorched the rubber, but the probe still works. The cable is also plenty long, so that I can leave the thermometer face on my table a few feet away with the probe in the wort.Temperature is accurate, and very quick. a few seconds is all it takes to read temperature. The only thing I do not like about this thermometer, is the lack of a power switch. It is always on, unless you pull the battery. Pulling the battery requires removing the faceplate entirely. But considering what this unit was actually designed for, I can understand not having the switch, and for the price, this thing is tough to beat.

This is now my go-to thermometer for homebrew. I dangle the thermocouple in for checking sparge water temps, drop and leave in the mash tun to monitor mash and never have to remove the lid to take the temp, and tape it to the side of the carboy overlaid with a piece of bubblewrap (for insulation from the ambient) to monitor fermentation. I have many digital and analog units with probes and remote thermocouples including a $250 Pelouze and I like this unit better than them all. The single AAA battery is supposed to be good for a year, so I plan to just leave it in, the battery should be replaced once a year anyway they will eventually leak and corrode. For folks seeing 'LLL' on the panel this is usually a sign the thermocouple is not connected, probably the wire got yanked and pulled loose at the meter and should be taken apart and checked, really has nothing to do with the temperature; the meter is unable to sense the probe. These units are so good and so cheap, and since they can get accidentally abused, the replacement cost is not too painful. Highly recommend.
