The Amprobe dual-input thermometer is designed to measure two temperatures simultaneously in a variety HVAC, electrical, industrial, and automotive maintenance applications. The thermocouples support superheat and subcool applications, and cut-out and cut-in temperature measurements. The meter has an offset mode that can be used to compensate for thermocouple error. The meter has a back-lit LCD screen with data hold to save readings for later viewing, and displays minimum and maximum temperature with elapsed time, and average and relative temperature calculations. The device operates on one 9V battery (included), which provides approximately 200 hours of use. The auto-power-off feature turns the meter off after approximately 15 minutes, and can be disabled. A low battery indicator helps prevent false readings.

The thermometers work as needed and the protective case was an added benefit that I was not expecting. I would order more of these.

Thermocouple meters are tough to buy. Fluke makes very good models, but they are rather expensive for casual use. Extech used to make a good model, which I used for years, but its not available now. So I tried Amprobe. I used some ammeters and an insulation tester years ago, and the quality and performance was good, so I tried them again. I have been pleased with the basic meter's performance and accuracy. Now Thermocouples are not inherently precision temperature measurement devices. Get a platinum RTD meter for that. But within the genre's limitations, this is a good meter. I have used it to monitor a smoker's temperature and have been happy with the performance. I have not tried the logging functions or the computer software, sorry.

it is good quality, but do not know how to adjust the offset . or it does not need to ?

I needed an accurate instrument to read the temperature of the lines to and from my air conditioner condenser, but at a reasonable price. The Amprobe TMD-53 Thermocouble Thermometer K/J-Type works great and far exceeds my expectations. I chose the Amprobe meter because of the specifications, price, and satisfaction with other Amprobe meter purchases.

This digital thermometer is comparable to a Fluke 52. It is easy to use and as accurate as I need for HVAC work. It has a rubber case that absorbs minor impact making it valuable to put in a vehicle for use in the field.

I’ve compared this to other loggers thermometers I have and I find it’s accurate to about a degree, but it seems to really depend on the thermacouple used. Build quality is nice though. Documentation and phone support are for Fluke so this must be some subsidiary brand. The device was easily ID’d in Windows 10. I tried it on an Acer laptop with USB 2 ports only, and on a desktop gaming build with an ASUS mobo USB 3 ports - both machines running win 10 v 1703 64 bit - and the meter was ID’d no problem on both, showing both channels correctly. The software is basic but fine if all you need is the data log and a correct time stamp. Log and time worked perfect for me. No errors. I opened the saved file in Excel 2013 and re-saved as an xlsx file and it displayed all info correctly. That was for logging in real time. Good luck if you want to log to the device for data retrieval later. The interface is not intuitive and some of the buttons modes don't seem to correspond to their function. I gave up on it as I only need to log and capture in real time to PC, and that is easier to do. You can also run this from an ac adapter rather than battery; it requires 12 v DC 150mA.Cons- You will probably need to shave the plastic fork ends of K type thermacouples to get them to fit in the recessed ports of the data logger. It’s Amprobe’s way to try and get you to use Amprobe proprietary thermacouples probes.- Data logger interface is very unintuitive and you’ll need to keep the manual handy if you want to log to the device rather than direct to PC software in real time.- Software is only on a mini CD, but you can also find the software online. (instructions below)- IMPORTANT: If you’re using only this device, then make sure to load ‘single meter’ software and not ‘multi meter’ as multi meter is for using multiple meters and not a single device. (Poor nomenclature)- Terrible placement of the USB and DC adapter ports on the bottom of the device. It interferes with propping the device up when you open the bale on the back to sit it up. It kinda works but I just lay mien flat due to the poor design.- Display is so-so. I wish there was a way to keep the light on all the time when using DC power. And your T2 channel is deprecated to a smaller harder to read size. I also have a UNI-T UT325 and that display is much betterIf you don’t have a mini DVD then go to Amprobe’s site listing for the TMD 56.Under the Resources tab, select Software (.zip) » and downloadIt will give you a zip file called 20160404_TMD.zipUnzip, and in CD_Root folder select autorun.exeIt will bring up “Software Installation Guidance”Select “Install USB driver[for WINDOWS 7_VISTA_XP_2000]” including if you are using Windows 10.After installing the USB driver, then go back to the autorun.exe file and run “Single Meter [Wireless & Cable]” if you have one single Amprobe device like the TMD 56.Then turn on the Amprobe unit with your thermacouples plugged in, & plug the usb cable into the PC. Then run the Amprobe software and it should ID both channels immediately.Your mileage may vary but the above directions worked flawlessly for me on two PC’s running Win 10.

TMD-50: Caveat emptor. The description here states that the meter will read up to 2498 deg F. This may be generalized information pertaining to other models in this series, but it does not apply to the TMD-50. This meter has a "3 1/2 character display, so the left character can be nothing or "1". This means that the maximum number displayed is 1999, as is stated in the owner manual that ships with the device. You can probably measure up to 2498 deg F with this device, but you have to do it in Celsius and do the conversion math to Fahrenheit. Of course, the two thermocouples shipped with the unit would melt at anything approaching that upper temperature, so you have to buy a specific pyrometer thermocouple separately to read that high (for use in a kiln, etc). Most people likely understand that though.Of note as well, is that you can calibrate the unit- e.g., stick the thermocouple in boiling water and set it to read that boiling point temperature. You can not do this in Fahrenheit though. If you press the "Adj" button to adjust it, nothing happens. If you switch to Celsius display, viola, it works and you can adjust to 100 deg C, then switch back to Fahrenheit. All of this was a bit too much for me, even though I know and use Celsius, I live and work in the US where most everything is in Fahrenheit, and I feel that this MFG should have designed/ modified this unit to work here. It is clearly a European device (German company) that was slightly modified to work in F so it could be sold here.I contacted Amprobe customer service, Fluke personnel responded (though none answered my questions) so this is likely imported to/ sold here in the US by Fluke as a lower cost alternative to their higher priced units. On the bright side, it is very well made, quality materials, quality display, quality buttons, etc. Seems like it will last and give good service.I returned this and paid a few dollars more for the next model up that has a 5 digit display, hopefully I can measure temperatures in Fahrenheit up to the stated limit.

I use this every day at work. Very nice to be able to take two temps at once. Having a back light is very useful, and the ability to re calibrate your thermocouples in ice water ensures that you are getting very accurate readings. Very good tool, much better price than Fluke, and Very durable. I have been using this for about a year, and no problems.

Nice features for the price. Little complicated to figure out with each button having three functions, but just have to play with it a while. Software is really simplistic, but it gets the job done. It has a nice rubber enclosure so it should take be able to handle the occasional drop. Was able to able to make a DC power supply out of a spare wall wart, but it can't be used with the kick stand since it plugs in the bottom. Same for the USB port. Would have been nice to have these ports on the top with the TC inputs. Battery cover is secured with a screw so it can not accidentally get lost. USB and power port has rubber dust cover, but is seems fragile and might get rippled off and lost. It does not come with a magnate hanger, like used on a Fluke, but the case is designed for one to be used. Also has a back light for use in dark areas or outside at night.

This thing is LEGIT! This has 2 channels, backlit LCD screen, nice rubber molded shock resistant case, works great. It comes with legit software that you can use to download the data (logged or saved) from the meter. It also do live data acquisition to your computer if you have the meter plugged in and the software on. The software does graphs and alarms, etc.Only downside is that the buttons are a little confusing and so it took me about an hour of reading the manual and playing with it to figure out how everything works. Now that I know it works great and has every feature I could need. Accurate too, plugged in 2 thermocouples and let them equalize and they were only 0.2 degF different. Great price for the quality and features.
