I had my old corded soldering iron for probably decades. if you own dewalt 20V tools and battery this is definitely worth it. I have an outdoor car speaker replacement where it is very far from a wall socket so I started looking for a cordless and found this. It even comes with a spool of solder any multiple tips. The instructions aren't great but easy to figure out.

I bought this a couple of months ago for use in the field. Just finally got around to using it. Worked great. Used it to solder four sets of wires. When I was carrying it back to my van, I noticed the unit had turned back on, and won't shut off. I pulled the battery. Whenever I try putting the battery back on, the unit just starts heating and the controls are unresponsive, no way to turn it off or change the temperature. The display doesn't show anything either. I guess it may still work at some temperature when the battery is plugged in, but not very convenient.

Died after a few months of infrequent use. Not worth it after all. Display flashes temp of 350F for a split second then E-1 permanently. Will not heat anymore. Transistorized so nothing repairable inside. No means of contacting seller.

You don’t need a third hand to solder with this. It holds and feeds the solder for you. Like I said, it’s not my forte, but I am better with this than a regular soldering iron. This is a review from an able tool user, just not a terrific solderer. It shows the temperature and you can adjust the temperature easily. I just wish I was better at it (not this tools fault).

I bought this tool for one specific purpose; repairing connections in the seasonal lights that I had strung a few years ago down from the top of the twin-trunk, 50-foot spruce tree in our front yard. I donned my climbing harness, and attached the handle of the iron to a tool lanyard for safety.Halfway up the tree, the soldering iron worked perfectly! Fitted with one of my DeWalt 20V batteries, , the tool was light, well-balanced, and easy and intuitive to use. Perfect for one-handed work! The iron also survived an accidental fall to our paved driveway from a retaining wall about five feet high. Although the battery did detach itself, there was no damage to either the tool or the battery. If there is one thing I would improve, I would make a larger and more substantial attachment point for a tool lanyard; the one at the base of the handle does not have a large enough opening. Otherwise, I am impressed and satisfied!
