When the sun in shining brightly, it works like a charm and gitters joyfully for a few hours after sunset. HOWEVER, with the least amount of shade it burps its way along in tiny bursts of energy and does nothing at night, for it never is able to charge its battery. The solar panels on this are JUST BARELY enough to keep it running and charging, then the water lands on the solar surface, covering it up, and lessening its ability to work. A poor design made to just barely work, so it barely works. Wouldn't buy again or recommend. By the way, I live in Oregon, along the coast, where cloudy days come frequently. In Arizona it might be a different story.

I just replaced one that I had for about two years. It comes with several adapters which change the height and kind of spray. It has an easy to clean sponge-like filter but its holder, on the back of the unit is a bit difficult to pry off.I have the one with white lights which turned on at darkness. After about a year, 2-3 of the LED’s stopped working.I had it in a birdbath. I think a raccoon or squirrel chewed off the plastic projections that keep the unit in place, however, it works fine without them.The unit must be cleaned regularly as it’s sitting in a birdbath engulfed it in slime. There is a product that is supposed to prevent this, or lessen the slime-effect, but bottom line, it should be cleaned weekly.

First about the cons. The instructions that came with the package were not easy to follow, especially regarding the installation of the tubes. I ended up going back to Amazon to look at the pictures again to finally get everything properly installed.Having said that, this seems to be a nice product. The sun was almost out when I received the package, but I went ahead and put it together immediately anyway. It was 100 degrees in where I live and I couldn't wait to see it in action. The water coming out of the nozzle was understandably weak as the device was not fully charged, nonetheless it worked right away! Came evening the white lights came on and it looked really pretty.Based on the initial observation, I will recommend this product.An update:Changing it from 5-star to 3-start. You really need to use this pump on a very wide fountain or you are going to need to keep refilling water. I bought a dish that's about twice as wide as the pump service but it's still not enough. What's more, birds will no longer drink water from the fountain as the water spray is too strong and they get scared. I have read that some pumps have a control to lower the power, but not this one. If you have a very wide dish and are using the pump for decorative purpose, then this pump would be a good choice.
