This rarely floats upright. Often laying on it's side. The numbers are very difficult to read. I have had it for 60 days and am throwing it away and purchasing a new one.

Completely disappointed - the thermometer is not properly weight distributed and doesn’t stay upright. It keeps falling over, no matter what we do ... not worth $

This little thermometer is accurate and charming. Others have said that the shark does not float upright, but if submerged for a short time, water fills the inside portion of the thermometer and the shark will float upright. Only complaint is that the numbers in celsius are a little hard to read on the one I received.

First one came broken, sent a second one which was great. Feels a bit cheaply made. Serves its purpose. It’s cute.

This guy totally makes me smile every time. Sometimes he floats sideways so you have to make sure the thermometer is full of water so the shark is floating at the top. He’s so cute with his sunglasses and thermometer works well.

I received this item and the fluid in the thermometer was upside down rendering it useless. Also the numbers on each side are very difficult to read. I would never buy this product again. It was for me, a waste of money.

Bought it, put it in the pool, tied to one of the house connectors for my in pool cleaner. Quick reading, cute addition to the pool.In one summer the cord that comes with it started coming apart. Replaced it with a different cord.Within a year the plastic over the thermometer had turned cloudy. So, cute item, did what I needed, reasonable price. if you plan to just leave it in the pool don't count on it lasting more than one season. Would probably last much longer if you only put it in when you wanted to check the temp.

The title says it all. Like many other reviewers, I have found that Hydro Tools pool thermometers are absolute garbage and poorly designed. For a pool thermometer to work it must sit in the water, w/ the thermometer below the water line...these Hydro Tools thermometers are not weighted properly, so they don't sit "in" the water, they float sideways "on top" the water, looking like a broken thermometer. This was a complete & total waste of money!

This Hydro Tools 9226 is a junk thermometer.EyeletThe eyelet on the shark's head is far too weak to withstand the loads of the thermometer under normal use.The string ripped apart the eyelet within two weeks.Hydro Tools would never expect customers to tie it to the side of the pool. I mean, come on, the shark's head is not any kind of an attraction. Surely no kids will play with it while it floats around freely. Tying it to the side of the pool would subject the eyelet to the massive forces of the 37g (1.8 oz.) thermometer as it bobs up and down with the water, plus the kids would be disappointed.AdhesiveThe adhesive that fastens the shark head is too weak to remain adhered to the thermometer body. The shark's head separated from the body of the thermometer within four weeks. I expect the adhesive is incompatible with water, i.e., water soluble.Hydro Tools is thinking, "Surely none of our customers will leave this submerged in water for any length of time!"StringThe string is incompatible with chlorinated pool water and/or ultraviolet rays from the sun.I reattached the thermometer to a second eyelet that comes integral with the thermometer body. (When your shark's head falls off you'll see the eyelet.) After six weeks, today, I found the thermometer at the bottom of the pool and fragments of string sitting on the pool deck.Either the engineers who designed it designated a material that is incompatible with chlorinated water and/or ultraviolet rays, or the Chinese manufacturer substituted a material that did not meet the engineer's specification.Hydro Tools is thinking, "Who knew this thermometer would be using in swimming pools with chlorine and sunshine!"AccuracyThe thermometer is not accurate.Today I measured the pool temperature using the subject junk thermometer, a five+ year old good thermometer, and the temperature sensor of the pool heater. Both thermometers were placed in the pool in the same location and were allowed five minutes to normalize. The result is that the pool heater read 86F, the good thermometer read 84F, and the junk thermometer read 92F. In lieu of using a certified, calibrated thermometer, this test implies that the junk thermometer is inaccurate.Hydro Tools is thinking, "How many of our customers will actually test the thermometer's accuracy!"VisibilityThe temperature indication numbers are oriented far off the center of the viewing window. Either the window needs to be widened, or the numbers need to be oriented a few degrees closer to the centerline of the viewing window.Hydro Tools is thinking, "The shark's head is so cool, don't you love her sunglasses?!"Look, I don't care about the $7 plus shipping, I just care about this endless parade of junk that's for sale in our market these days. Considering value for money, it doesn't matter how cheap the object is if it offers zero value. You'll want to know about the good thermometer I mentioned above. It is the Intex brand, Amazon B004N2IKYE. Mine weighs 76g (2.7 oz.) Andy in Friendswood

This thermometer is so much fun. I love going out to the pool every day and finding him to check the temp. He is not very big and yes, you have to submerge him for a second to fill him with water if you lift him above the surface...but seriously, how hard is that? I'd recommend him... he's a blast.

pro: very cute sharky. reasonably durable. Seems accurate.con: tick marks only every two degrees and tinny plastic lens make this actually hard to read accurately. Thus it's fine for getting a sense of the temperature. But it's not so good if you are hoping to see if the temperature is falling (say after you take the lid of the tub) over a short interval. While it is accurate (i.e. reads 104 if the temperature is 104) it's too hard to read precisely (i.e. cant really tell if it has fallen to 103 or if you are just holding the thing differently between readings) mine has been circulating for a year since I bought it and it is in fine shape. Comes with a rope and eyelet that you can use to tie it off if you want it in a fixed position.I gave it 4 stars since I've not actually found anything better in the same size and price range for manual thermometers, so it's hard to ding it too much for the narrow temperature scale.
