It is unexcelled for drawing or scribing straight lines and checking surfaces for straightness. Its thickness and design permit it to retain shape and accuracy, but still be portable and easy to handle. The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer is marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection. Most jobs involve the use of straight edges in the flat position - and it is in this position that we check most stringently. 48" (1200mm).

I bought this because my 24" was too short for my long jointer bed. I also wanted to use this to make my left wing and right router insert flush to my table saw. This straight edge is flat as advertised but there is a noticeable bow on it. I know that bowing doesn't cause any issues with flatness but when I put it diagonally on the table saw or any surface that is not flat, it's hard to put a feeler gauge to it. I expect better quality from Starrett. For an expensive tool such as this, there should be zero issues.

This Starrett straight edge is a great lifetime investment. A few extra dollars upfront and you are assured of complete accuracy. This is a delicate instrument so treat it with kid gloves. Do not drop. Keep it safely boxed up when not in use. Your machine setups will love you for it. Nice low price from Amazon.
