About this item

  • Designed for Precision - The Starrett 385 Series Steel Straight Edit with Bevel Edge is precision ground and nicely finished to rigid Starrett standards. It provides users with accurate and consistent results.
  • Beveled One Edge - This tool is beveled on one edge but not graduated or has any mark of units for measurement. It is unexcelled for drawing or scribing straight lines and checking surfaces for straightness.
  • Easy to Use - The Starrett Steel Straight Edge thickness and design permit shape retention and accuracy. This tool is portable, easy to use and easy to handle.
  • Best Performance - The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer are marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection.
  • The Standard for Excellence - Proudly made in the USA, Starrett combines over 140 years of American heritage and innovation with globally sourced materials to deliver exceptional quality tools and products.

The Starrett 385 Series Steel Straight Edit with Bevel Edge is precision ground and nicely finished to rigid Starrett standards. It is unexcelled for drawing or scribing straight lines and checking surfaces for straightness. Its thickness and design permit it to retain shape and accuracy, but still be portable and easy to handle. The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer is marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection. Most jobs involve the use of straight edges in the flat position - and it is in this position that we check most stringently. 18" (450mm).

I've got an item suspiciously similar to one from a negative review here. A bottom left corner is dinged forming a huge burr, probably somewhere during handling of the item at a warehouse, so the straightedge is totally busted. The finish is rough - 80 grit grinding marks, they're visible on a Starrett product photos on their website. Old straightedges were polished. All edges are quite sharp, grinding marks on them too, although of a finer grit. It doesn't seem to be hardened either. For the price I totally expect a perfect item, esp. knowing that competitors offer the same product about 45% cheaper. Wanted to go with a big name, but Starrett seems to be long dead (and sold to private equity company, so don't expect any improvements in future).I'm returning, not replacing this item: it's shipped in a box twice as large without any dunnage, so asking for another is a lottery.

Firm, but not straight. The finish on it was bit rough, as it looked like it had 80 grit finish marks.

Ordered the Starrett straight edge for the quality and from Amazon for the good price and free shipping. I will be using this to setup guitar necks and frets and other straight edge duties as needed.Delivered in perfect condition and in three days!I would purchase this item again if I ruin this, and as anyone who works with close tolerance tools , drop it once and back to the store for a new one!
