The Starrett 380 Series Steel Straight Edge is precision ground and nicely finished to rigid Starrett standards. It is unexcelled for drawing or scribing straight lines and checking surfaces for straightness. Its thickness and design permit it to retain shape and accuracy, but still be portable and easy to handle. The 380 Series is not beveled or graduated. The 385 Series are beveled one edge, but not graduated. The 387 Series has one edge that is both beveled and graduated in 32nds of an inch. The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer are marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection. Most jobs involve the use of straight edges in the flat position - and it is in this position that we check most stringently. 18" (450mm).

Sure would have been nice if Starrett had debured the edges after grinding. That’s just poor quality control there.

Pretty poor quality for starrett. I was expecting it in a better package, it arrived taped to a piece of sterling board. Doesn't seem to be true either after running my eye down the edges.Not worth the money

Good quality but the edged had burs that I removed with a good stone, otherwise very flat and straight.

Starrett products are always top quality. Worth the little extra. I bought these to act as reference rails for my Coordinate Measuring Machine and they were much more precise than guaranteed. Off less than 0001 in over 12 inches.

Some of the reviews on this product mentioned poor packaging. This has improved somewhat. Mine came rubber banded to a piece of wood, presumably to protect it in shipping. I checked mine on a granite surface plate and found the the narrow faces were ground perfectly straight, but that it was warped by 0.006" in the other direction. I suppose it doesn't really matter, as the faces you use are straight, but I didn't expect any imperfection in a Starrett product. Still, it worked just fine for checking flatness of a cylinder block.
