I'm a retired electronics technician. Over the past 40 years, I have built a combination woodshop/ machine shop in the basement of a 120yr old house. The basement floor was never actually level. In 1905 that was not as much of a priority as it is today. So the floor may not be exactly level, but my machinery has to be. Wooden shims under my heavy equipment just get crushed. Plastic works better, but when you've got 600lbs of weight the only thing that is rock steady is metal. These make it easy. Price is not bad. I could make them here in the shop. I'd buy the stock and then take the time to machine them into wedges, but at that point I can buy them cheaper than make them. Thus, five stars.
