You can set the amount of watering for your soaker hose using this device. Much easier than turning the water on by hand, having to wait for it to finish and turn it of. Set the frequency and amount of watering and forget about it. You only need to remember to change batteries every few months.I've just downgraded this one star because of a problem I've noticed: If you hit the "Power" button, it shuts down the device (which is fine) but it also wipes out your settings and you have to re-program it. I didn't see any warning about this and don't know if it can be adjusted. It's also totally useless. If you want to shut down the device for a while because it's been raining, you expect it to pick up where you left off when you shut it down, but it doesn't. This doesn't happen even if you swap out the batteries, as there is a lithium-ion battery that is charged by a solar panel on top of the device, so the settings stay put while you're swapping batteries. Why you would have a button that wipes out all the settings, without a warning like "do you want to wipe out your watering schedule" I don't understand. The button is close to others, so it's easy enough to hit it by accident, even if you know that's what it does. Setting the schedule is not a big pain, but it's a chore and there's no reason to have to do it more than once.

I got this to be the timer for my drip irrigation system for my fruit trees. I installed 3 AAA batteries (not included). There are 2 tiny screws that need to be removed to replace the batteries, but it does come with a small screwdriver. Inside the house, I played with it a bit, set the time, set up a program to see how it worked before an outside test. One thing that bothered me is the washers with screen filters fall out of the female connector. Once connected to a hose this is not an issue, but I picked that washer up off the floor about 8 times before I hooked it to my hose. I wanted to do a simple manual test first, but when I turned on the faucet, this timer was already allowing the water to flow. I pushed manual and nothing happened. I pushed the power button and it kept allowing water through. I turned off the water, to the timer back inside and tested it again. I could hear it clicking when expected, so I took it back outside and this time my 1 minute manual test worked as expected. I started a timer test, but did not want to waste water, so I turn off the faucet. Why does a power button not turn off the timer and stop the flow? I turned the unit off, but the timer left the flow going. The manual button also did not override and stop the flow. The instructions that came with it said if the water won’t turn off, check ‘How Long’ and ‘How Often’. They also say to stop manual watering press ‘Manual’. There is no easy way I could find to stop a scheduled water session. I also wish the ‘Rain Delay’ would allow me to stop the current water cycle and have it wait for the next one. The options are 24, 48, and 72 hour delays. If it is raining a lot, I just want it to stop watering until the next scheduled cycle. It did not leak at the connections. I will use batteries, but it will be in the sunlight, so I’ll see if the solar panels will allow it to shut off after my batteries grow weak. This is the most confusing and difficult to use timer I have, but I am hoping once I get it configured for the tree watering schedule, it will work per the instructions and the other more positive reviews.
