What is the Exhaust Backpressure Valve?

The Exhaust Backpressure Valve (EBPV/EBV) is designed to close during cold engine operation to allow the engine to warm up more quickly by creating additional exhaust backpressure. The system components include a flapper valve in the exhaust outlet housing which is controlled by an actuator located in the exhaust pedestal. The PCM operates an electric solenoid (also located in the pedestal) which send engine oil pressure to the actuator when EBPV action is desired.

What can go wrong?

As these trucks age, failures of the EBP system are becoming more common. We have seen trucks come in that could hardly move out of their own way because the EBV was rusted in the closed position. Oil leaks from the actuator located in the pedestal are also common. The solenoids also fail or break and quite expensive.

It's very important to determine if your F-Series truck is an early or late 1999. This product ONLY fits the late 1999's. Please measure the diameter of the intake cover connection before purchasing. Late-model trucks have a 3-inch inlet, early trucks have a 2-inch inlet. Our 7.3L Non-EBP Turbo Pedestal Powerstroke & Exhaust Housing ONLY fit late 1999's truck.

I missed the plug on the rear of the pedestal and dumped a ton of oil on the driveway. Rookie move. Everything fit well and installed as expected.

I liked the price. I think that all these kits are the same. Come out of the same foundry in China. All said, I'm OK with it.I installed on a fresh out of the box re-manufactured turbo. I used the supplied bolts for the new casting. They are hex head vs the stock 12pt bolts.You have to grind off the side of the casting for the waste gate arm (as many have mentioned).If you are deleting the EBP valve for the first time, you will need the terminator (electrical). I purchased on Amazon for $14.62.While you're at it you should do the up-pipes with a bellowed option. Your're already there if you are installing this kit.

Comes with hardware and o rings. Pedestal bolted on with no issues. Exhaust housing requires clearance for the wastegate.

Clamp for down pipe does not fit. Flange is too narrow on new turbo outlet.

have to trim a piece for the waste gate two minutes on the grinder and a bit of high temp paint and good to go

The parts look quality. And fit well. Eliminating the exhaust backpressure valve stopped a bad oil leak. And I don't notice any difference in warm up time. But I plug in my engine heater when the truck is sitting in temperatures below 40.

I’ve installed this kit over a month ago on my 1999.5 7.3 and so fare so good. Everything bolted up as it should but I had too cut the exhaust side of the turbo too make the wast gate work.
