There's really not much to say about a carpenter square. As long as it's "square" and provides accurate measurements, it's doing its job. However, out of the box this one is pretty impressive. I immediately noticed that the quality and thickness of the aluminum is as good or better than anything I've seen in the big box home improvement stores lately.I purchased a square a couple of years ago that is made of thick plastic and, sure enough, it has not only started to get chipped at the edges, it's actually starting to warp a bit.I cannot ever see that being an issue with this one. This has plenty of handy measuring tools that folks may or may not find useful, but I'm glad they're there. My only minor complaint is that at 7" I wish this square was a big larger. For a square of this quality, I consider this an excellent choice.

Great square! I have another one with moveable parts but I love the simplicity of this one. One solid machined square. It works perfectly and doesn't have parts to mess up. And the mechanical carpenter's pencil is a nice added touch! The top doesn't stay on very well which isn't great but I like it!

I got this speed square for use measuring angles for welds and grinding and I couldn't be happier. It comes with all the holes and measurements I need and it's thicker edges and aluminum construction make it sturdy and inflexible which for accurate measurements a hard requirement. If you're doing metal or woodwork this is a great tool to have around for measuring and tracing the angles of your cuts.

Checked it with a precision machinist square and it is not square, or even straight. I know this is for woodworking, so not precision, but how hard is it to get a square square, and straight? Nice job anodizing it, though. Many speed squares come with a booklet explaining how to use all of the features, but this came with nothing.

The speed square I received was square and the measurements were accurate. The addition of the hole sizes and the marking guides are nice bonus to make this even more useful. This is a great set if you are working with dimensioned lumber like a 2x4. The thick lead on the pencil can handle marking coarser lumber that would break a fine diameter pencil lead. This is not a set for fine woodworking. The guide holes will let you quickly make a mark with a bit of variance depending on how you position the lead. If you are trying to layout dovetails to cut by hand this is not the set for you. If you need to quickly mark and cut 2x4s and 2x6s where +/- a 1/32 is just fine you will be happy with this set.

This is a very nice speed square! It’s well made, and I particularly like that it has holes 1/8” apart for scribing. Most speed squares have 1/4” between grooves so you can scribe a line at (for example) 1 1/8”The pencil was also a nice surprise. I have a Pica pencil that uses the same lead size. This pencil works just as well at less than half the price. The lead sharpener is in the pencil’s cap, so it’s less likely to get misplaced. Highly recommended!

I recently ordered this 7-inch speed square for my DIY carpentry projects, which I've added to my "Go Box" of essential woodworking tools.I have been quite impressed with the high contrast between the red frame and the white lettering, as it greatly enhances readability. The fit and finish of this tool reflect an excellent standard of manufacturing, and I am pleased to report that I did not notice any defects. The square's metal construction, as opposed to plastic, gives me confidence in its durability and reliability. This is the first square I have owned that includes a built-in drill gauge. While I have seen this feature before, it has not been part of my previous squares.Overall, my experience with this square has been very positive, and I look forward to its reliable performance for many years to come. If you are considering purchasing a square, I believe this product warrants your attention.

I just want to mention if the cap of your pencil is missing, it is probably stuck in the bottom of the box like mine was. I looked, didn’t see the cap. Shook the box and even checked inside the box this box came in. I finally took the first box and ripped it open and there it was wedged in the bottom. I was very relieved. Speaking of the pencil, it works great and it’s nice to have the 6 extra leads that comes in a storage case with this kit. Unscrew the top, orange cap of the pencil and there is a lead sharpener in there and it works very well and is appreciated to have that option on the pencil.I checked for square and it is right on. This square also has a built-in screw gage from #0 through #12. The 1/8” hole increments along the side of the square is a little puzzling to me. I might be missing something, I don’t know, but from zero to one inch, it goes in quarters but not 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. The holes actually do start at 1/8 but instead of 1/4 as the next eighth inch increment, it then goes to 3/8, 5/8 and once it gets to 7/8, it starts at every 1/8 inch from then on as stated in the description. 7/8, 1, 1-1/8, 1-1/4, etc. and the holes stop altogether at 6-1/8-inch. I think they done the first inch that way because they didn’t have the room to alternate the holes as they do starting at 7/8. This square also has hole sizes 5/8, 3/4, 7/8 and 1-inch stamped in the square. I think this kit is pretty nice and am happy to add it to my workshop.
