I almost didn't buy this tool because of the negative comments about it coming apart or unscrewing while using it. The statement is true and at first this happened but looking at the pictures I bought it because of the many threads it has so coming apart easily can't happen. If you don't tighten all of the sections we'll and while using it you twist it in the direction of unscrewing it.There are fixes to it coming loose and the first is to use some type of Lock-Tight (copyright) on the threading as you put each threaded section together. Might not work for you if you apply a lot of pressure in the direction of unscrewing it as you use it. The second is to put the tool together and then in some type of holding device drill a hole from one side to the other and depending on the hole size put in a 10/32 screw or a 10/20 screw and attach a lock tight nut and just like the actual root pulling section now it will not unsrew on you.Now my actual rating of this tool is that if used as directed it works amazingly accurate as described. The first test that I made on this tool was the hardest I could find and was a huge Crabgrass that was in my yard just to see if it did what it said it would and would it bend, break or actually work. As directed I placed the front two forks on one side of the middle of the plant and the back two forks on the other side of the middle of the plant and with my foot pushed the four forks down and around the plants center using the extended toung for the purpose of pushing the forks into the ground. With that same extended toung facing towards me and around the center of the plant and into the ground I pulled the long handle back towards me and this makes the four forks to come together and squeeze around the plant and roots. Well as directed and used as I did the whole entire Crabgrass plant and roots came up out of the ground as a whole plant and now there is no longer that Crabgrass in that location. I then proceeded to pull up weeds all over my landscape beds with ease and yes there is some effort on large weeds but it is amazing how well it does and how amazingly it works. It is a strong well made tool that I think could have been made with the spring loaded stainless steel pop out locks with several hole locations so first it would easily lock and unlock and secondly you could make the handle adjustable to your comfortable height. Cost wise I think it is way overpriced for a garden tool but with that said it should last to hand down to several generations if taken care of properly. I recommend this or a similar tool that has the same basic description and specs but maybe cheaper in price.

I've bought the cheaper weed puller sticks but they all break after a while because of the hard clay soil around my house. This one seems to be holding up really well and is just the right size and weight with no plastic or soft/thin metal parts under stress.

It's early 2023 and for some reason, we had a HUGE eruption of wild lettuce thistles in our yard this year. Hundreds of them suddenly came up and quickly overwhelmed our front yard. Mowing them didn't kill them and commercial weed killers got the plant but seemed to leave the huge taproot in place to sprout again later. The only thing that we could do was dig them out one at a time. I bought this to help with the task.As others have said, this type of weeder really only works well on broadleaf weeds like thistles and dandelions and I can verify that to be true. I went out for the first time to try this tool after rain had softened our clay soil and I have to say it worked really well. I was able to go much faster using this than when I was using a dandelion weeding tool. This is not a perfect tool by any means. It doesn't always manage to grab onto the big taproot under weeds and breaks off some of the big ones that are deep in the ground. So there is still a fair bit of digging out roots with a dandelion weeder. But this tool allowed me to got at least twice as fast as digging on the ground and even faster when the soil is nice and wet. In one week I literally filled an entire 96 gallon trash bin with almost nothing but wild lettuce thistles. Just know that there are limitations to what types of weeds you will be able to grab onto with this and your soil type will also cause you problems if you try to use this when it's too dry.Glad I bought this, though. Probably saved me 5 or 6 hours of work if I had dug at ground level by hand. Definitely worth buying. Don't misunderstand, though - this is still hard work. The videos of people using these make it seem like you just stand over the weed and the weeds practically run away from you. No - there's a lot of bending involved trying to get the tool centered on the taproot and the weeds still have to be pried out of the jaw once pulled. You will be sweating and will likely still have a sore back after using this for a couple of hours.
