Basically a Trangia, if you're familiar with them. This little stove is very sturdy and puts out a lot of heat.I haven't really used the simmer ring as intended, but it's a nice feature to have. You will need a pot stand to use this to cook. A lot of folding wood-burning box stoves will fit this one too, and allows for flexibility in options.Other reviews have stated that the O-ring inside the cap tends to leak. That has not been my experience. I screw the cap down tightly and have had no leaks.I particularly like how quiet it is to use. When I'm in the woods making a cup of coffee or something, the last thing I want to hear is the roar of a isobutane stove. Kinda kills the mood.I pack this with my Stanley Adventure Cookset, folding crossbar pot stand, and an 8 ounce bottle of fuel. Also, you can light it pretty easily with even a ferro rod.Overall, it's now my main stove for hikes and lightweight camping.

I love my Solo alcohol burner! Out here on the west coast you would never run out of fuel but, when it rains everything get soaking wet including all those little piece of wood. This is where this little burner comes in and it just saved the day this past weekend. Pouring rain and not a dry piece of anything so comes this little alcohol burner and instant flame and a nice hot coffee! I liked that the lid on the burner seals so you don't spill any fuel when transporting. Also like that it fits nicely inside the Solo stove for compact transport

For a simple, light weight backpacking cooking option, i.e. boiling water for freeze dried food or store bought dried foods like rice, this is a great choice. I use it with the Solo Stove Lite to support a 1 liter titanium pot. The only down side is with the stove, it's a little heavy, but if you use rocks or logs for a pot support, the weight is significantly less. Will work with any alcohol fuel. I used 70% Isopropyl to boil 750 ml of water in 7 minutes, though there was a fair amount of soot on the pot. Denatured alcohol avoids that issue.Warning: Don't try white gas (Coleman Fuel). You'll get an explosion.Edit: After two years, the burner still gets high marks. I strongly recommend having one for use in any stove for which the primary fuel is biomass. These burners are safer, cleaner and better for the environment, IMO.

Pretty neat little addition to the Solo stove. When you can't find or don't want to burn plant stuffs, this little stove will make for a good backup. It fits perfectly inside of the collapsed Solo stove and can ride along in the stove's tote bag no problem. It looks lto be constructed pretty well. I particularly like the rubber gasket which, in theory, allows you store fuel inside the stove during transit. Time will tell how well the rubber o-ring will hold up against alcohol over time.I have only used Everclear grain alcohol for fuel and the stove runs well on that.Beyond the sealed screw-on cap, there is also a secondary "lid" with a handle on it. Supposedly this can be used for simmering, but I found it unworkable, at least with my fuel source. The handled lid pretty effectively snuffs out the pinhole jets around the perimeter, which made the stove ineffectual in my experience. It does, however, work great to extinguish the stove after you're done with it.During use the stove sits on the Solo's grate at just the right height to make for pretty effective cooking. The removable riser on the Solo acts like a decent wind shield in milder wind conditions. I can't tell if the venting of the Solo contribute any significant amount to how the alcohol stove burns when inside of the Solo. That said, I think the alcohol stove will work near equally well when used by itself.I don't know that this stove functions any better than any of the alcohol stoves that I've made in the past from soda cans, but this unit is much more solid, will last much longer, can store fuel on the inside and fits the dimensions of the Solo stove in every way.All in all, at this price point, it's worth it.

I bought one of this due to the user ratings from YouTube and other camper websites and blogs. they told me that they recommend this stove if you wanted something other than a Trangia Mini burner.Aside than reason, i recently bought my Trangia mini burner and I had an accident while I was using it. i don't know if I got a unit out of the bad batche but upon using it for the 2nd time, the trangia "Flared Up" like back draft from a burning building while was lifting the frying pan I was cooking on! The flames shot up from the jets about a foot and a half high and almost burning my face & eyebrows! i never expected this from a quality stove like trangia so i ordered this Esbit alcohol stove as an immediate replacement. It functioned just like the Trangia but in a slow constant flame and the flame lasted almost half an hour because i filled this stove with yellow HEET fuel up to the brim. It actually cooked 4 pieces of thick bacon, a big whole piece of Polish sausage, fried 3 scrambled eggs to a slight burn and on top of this it also boiled a liter of water to a full rolling boil! all this cooking in a half hour and one single fill of fuel! i don't know if i'm ever going back in sing a trangia mini burner again knowing that this stove is actually more fuel efficient and burns even and constant....i think i'll stick to this stove for the time being and I might order another in the near future.
