This soldering iron is fine for infrequent use. But anything more than that and you're going to be disappointed. The iron itself works just fine and comes up to temperature quickly. However, the tip doesn't last. After several uses, the surface pretty much erodes and instead of being a nice fine-point tip, it is no longer smooth, pointy or clean-able. I routinely clear and tin the tip of any soldering iron I'm working with, so the tip was taken care of. But even with that it didn't last.My go-to soldering iron is a workhorse Ungar that gets used for hours at a time. I bought this soldering iron for quick jobs but wound up going back to the Ungar for everything.

I got this kit so I could relearn how to solder and not spend a fortune and I have been extremely pleased. Almost everything you need is in this kit.

Purchased five kits for my local makerspace during classes and events. They were able to be used successfully by both beginners at our introductory soldering class and experienced members for personal projects. Its great that they come with everything you need to get started and can be stored and transported in the carrying case. The discounted price of $13 just can't be beat for the quantity and convenience. My only suggestion would be to add an option that comes with "helping hands" to really complete the kit.

I was traveling and needed a soldering iron, but mine were all back home. This was cheap and complete. The only thing that would make it even more complete would be a bit of rosin. The iron heats up quickly, and the kit has everything you need to get some soldering done. The numbering on the temperature dial is microscopic to the point that it's tough for my aging eyes to tell which direction is hotter, let alone what the actual temperature was supposed to be. It's still working fine after a number of uses. Everything being in a single case makes it convenient enough that I've grabbed this instead of my normal desk station a few times since purchase. I don't think I'd depend on this if I was a professional running it hours every day, but for home use it's working just fine.

For years I thought I was awful at Soldering. I couldn't get any solder to stick to anything. It always took forever to get hot enough to melt any and it would just roll around, no matter how I tinned or fluxed my iron. I was told it was a good iron and though it was vintage 80's, most of the vintage stuff I have is still functional. Clearly my old soldering iron was NOT. Turns out it wasn't getting nearly hot enough, also it weighed a ton and was cumbersome. This new one is lightweight enough to feel "cheap" but that is a GOOD THING when you're wrangling little bits of things. It's very easy to maneuver because of it's light weight and the holder I got with mine matches the one in the item photos! It's VERY nice and the iron doesn't slip forward like it tends to with the cone shaped holders! I even used the wire stripper, some of the included wire (to make a battery adapter) and the solder sucker. It all worked great. The only thing that might be a bit iffy is the tweezers. They're very soft and bend easily, but since they're for tiny capacitors, it shouldn't matter. Just be gentle with them and don't use them for something they're not intended for. One thing I would have added is a small Phillips head screwdriver as the wire part of the holder does need to be tightened to the base. Otherwise, it's a very complete kit! The case itself is even very nice and feels durable.

I have no prior soldering experience.I've used it to successfully swap pickups in one my guitar. The price of the kit, is cheaper than the cost of a technician to the swap.

I'd had my old one for probably 15 years, bought off the wall of a hardware store for something I was working on at the time that is since forgotten. I believe it was 30 watts, and while well-constructed, it seemed to take forever to heat anything up and soldering was difficult, making me think it was me doing something wrong or not doing what I should be doing to make things work. This new soldering iron is like night and day as far as how it heats and works. It made a recent small soldering project so much quicker and easier, I kicked myself (not literally) for not getting one a long time ago.The reason for the four stars is because of the temperature control. It works, because I did my soldering on a lower temperature, which worked great, and then as a test I cranked the temp control up to full power. In a couple minutes the whole end of the iron, not just the soldering tip, was starting to glow red, so the control definitely works. I don't know if the numerical temp values are accurate as to the actual temperature of the soldering tip, but it's easy enough to tell the green numbers from the red, so you know when you're heading into 'super hot' territory. The problem is that it just feels a little cheap to me, like the control may be the first thing to fail. Also, the print on the sticker affixed to the control knob is so tiny I can't read it with my fifty-plus-year-old eyes. The stand, tips, and all the included accessories, including the solder (which I used for my soldering project), all seem to be of good, functional quality.Overall this product is a great value for the money, given all you get with the iron. For the person who only solders a few times a year like me, it will probably last you a long time. If you solder eight hours a day, you'll probably want something better, but for my purposes this will do just fine and will probably (hopefully) last the rest of my life. Very satisfied with this purchase.
