I do a lot of automobile electrical and I hate those crimp connections, so I end up soldering my connections. Being in a car, it’s often in an awkward, uncomfortable place to reach. I do splices, with heat shrink wrap off to the side(so as not to shrink early from the soldering heat. It’s a lot to keep in position while I work. I tried workbench style clip arms, etc. But often there just isn’t enough space for all that, and one hand holding solder wire and another hand holding the soldering iron. Plus, every auto-parts store soldering iron I bought just eventually warps and stops working good. So, I got this.So far, it’s been good. The assembly is a little finicky, but you don’t have to touch it once it’s set up. Pull a trigger and it feeds solder like a mig welder. The solder is really fine, so it’s hard to see as it melts…but it works. I can use my other hand and basically solder one-handed(not really, because I’m still doing something with my left hand like holding/steadying the pieces being soldered or holding myself up over the engine.) Basically, it makes a job that requires 3 hands into one you can do yourself more comfortably. Plus, it’s a nice modern (light duty) soldering iron. It has LED lights and stays cool over the body and only heats the working end - compare that to my old one that felt like it was an electrical short in my hand, barely protected by some warped, melting plastic. Yikes! The good:1) Modern, insulated, small form factor.2) Motorized feed of solder. One handed operation (Huge win!!!)The bad(or Needs improvement):1) Weird light gage solder. Much smaller diameter than usual electronic solder. Where do I get more?!2) No carrying case. Once you assemble it, all the stuff doesn’t fit back in the cardboard box. Would have loved a case. Consider buying one along with this.Still very happy with this tool. I would recommend it.

Not a quality product. This is my second one of these. The first was returned because it was defective and would not feed solder wire through it. The wire would go half way ball up and have to be picked out. This one does exactly the same thing. I think I will just keep this one and use it like a conventional soldering iron but I would never recommend anyone buy one.

After a minute it was very hot. Not sure if it will retain its heat over the long term but its hot out of the gate. It solders well (replace the solder that came with it, it beads up and does not flow on circuit boards). The wire feed works well. I wish I had this years ago, it is nice having a free hand to hold the board, wire or connector.

I had to return the first kit as it was missing the solder and the replacement came quick so looked over to see I had all the parts to put it together. So I had set it up after watching some of the videos on what each part does and low and behold, the thing was on already and I accidently touched the tip and burned the finger. This thing is hot. The tips are nice and swappable when it is off for a while and has cooled. The solder that comes with it was a nice way to be able to thread it through and feed it in as you click and press the trigger, more solder comes out on the other end but it doesn't necessarily align with the solder tip. I had to make adjustments to it and it gets really hot near the tip. Also the mount to hold up the solder where it faces the table had placed it in the wrong direction and it tipped over burning my mat. Well that was another mistake I faced. The solder remover pump didn't have any instructions so I had to look up how to use it and I actually had to use it when soldering some incorrectly and had to remove some solder. The included tweezers are also an added bonus. I took off a star because of the missing pieces when I first gotten it but the solder works great if you do no burn yourself.

I loved this concept and, admittedly, I am not a welder. The issue I had was that the solder was too small/dainty for the job. So I got bigger solder and then the gun wouldn’t melt the solder. I was trying to mouse-proof something by welding 1/2” hardware cloth to a piece of metal flashing and it didn’t work.
