I purchased this Solar Powered Outdoor 4G LTE Modem Router for remote connectivity, but after installation, our security team discovered that all internet traffic is being routed through Hong Kong—even though we’re using a U.S. cellular provider. This raises major privacy and security concerns, as it suggests the device may be using a proxy, VPN, or external relay service without user consent. It could also be sending data to offshore servers, which is unacceptable for sensitive applications like security cameras or remote monitoring. If you care about network security and data privacy, I strongly recommend inspecting traffic before using this device. Check your firewall logs and verify APN settings. I ended up replacing it with a more reputable brand.⚠️ Buyer beware—this router may not be secure.

Since the description said "Solar WiFi Extender", we assumed it has a dedicated Extender functionality, to extend/repeat an existing WiFi network. However, it looks like it only has the option to act as a modem for a 3G/4G network in case you have a sim card, so we weren't able to test that functionality. The description seems slightly misleading in this way. If we ever have the option to test with a sim card, we'll update the review here.At $139.99 plus tax, it seems a bit pricey.

Ordered this as a option to setup remote monitoring at a cabin with good cell signal. The device would not charge even off of a wall port so tried setting out in the sun and in the end completed depleted the battery. I will call out a really nice feature is that it has a built in eSIM and another slot for you to add a secondary which could provide redundancy if needed.

For starters, you need to put this outside in the sun for it to work. As obvious as that sounds, it brings up my second point, which is that your connection to this is going to have some unavoidable limitations. Overall though it works well enough considering all that. Ultimately it depends on your needs, but if you do need something like this, then I would say this device works as intended and looks pretty cool to boot.

Very light assembly is needed - just attach the mounting arm to the back with two flathead Phillips screws. The mounting arm is solid and up to the mounting task and includes four screws you can use to mount it on a wall or other structure (or vehicle). The two antennas are loosely attached - you will need to tighten them, get the angles correct, and set up the device before mounting it. Save yourself the trouble, and don't try configuring it in place. You will need a NANO size sim card for data service to work. I used a T-Mobile data sim from my mobile hotspot and found it worked fine. You install it by simply sliding it into the SIM slot, paying careful attention to the icon below the slot that shows the proper orientation of the angled corner. It won't work otherwise. Once you've got the SIM in, flip the tiny on switch below it, and you'll see the ON light come on. (Alternatively, you can use the built-in VSIM without adding anything - but you will need to buy the data separately)From there, you'll be able to connect to the wifi signal from the router using the SSID from your phone, then log into the admin interface using the username/password default on the back of the device. It is important to remember to take a photo of the sticker that contains the admin password and username, as well as other information. Unless this will be in a place NO ONE can physically access, you'll want to remove the sticker so that that information can't be used to reset the device.Once set up, mount it on an exterior wall that gets maximum sunlight during the day to keep it charged up and going. Mine runs for about four to five days without sun purely on battery, so even in bad weather, it's pretty nice. Seal the rubber cover for the SIM slot and switch before mounting it to keep water out. Mounted 10 feet up on a shed wall, I had no issues using it. I get great wifi service for about 100 feet from the router, with decent service out to about 150 feet. It supports wifi 6 for better range and speed than earlier standards if your computer/tablet/phone supports that standard. I found that it supports security cameras, though you will want to set the devices to not constantly stream. I was able to use it with a security system that doesn't need constant streaming connections with great success.Overall, this is a great solution for providing internet access via wifi anywhere that has a good data signal. Highly recommended!
