I had my doubts initially on both its effectiveness and weather-ability. It's been extremely effective (no deer, nothing!) since it's been installed and its been through numerous rain storms/downpours with no issues. I really enjoy the volume control as my neighborhood is dead silent at night and the highest volume was startlingly loud. If you are in a less densely populated area or loud area that might be best for your application. It's also been fully charging even with overcast/rainy days.

This thing is SO good!! It is loud as heck!! Really loud!! You hear gun shots and dogs barking. This thing will scare anything.!! The deer and I were in a fight on who was going to win domain of my garden. They kept jumping the 5 ft tall fence. I bought gallons of deer spray, the anti deer clips, the shiny things, every smelly thing. Then I got this.. OMG I LOVE how it scares the deer so much. I think it gives them nightmares.. They come near it and they are gone!! We watched them on our ring cams. Buy this with COMPLETE confidence. The sound of it is SO LOUD

I like this security device for a number of reasons, the main one being that I was able to record a custom warning message on it to scare away prowlers or intruders. I don't often see that type of option on most security alarms or motion detectors so that makes it unique for me. The ability to customize what or how I want to have a warning (including how loud) is really a neat option! And with a little online experimentation you can find websites that will optimize the volume wayyy loud, and then record it and WOW you can get a really loud sound that will scare away just about anyone! I also like that it has a remote (which a lot of these types of devices don't have). And that it can be charged with with solar or with usb, so that gives you a range of ways to use it, with solar only outdoors or also as a very effective indoor motion detector/alarm.The motion sensor works quite well, and i LOVE the red flashing lights. Again, I don't often see motion sensors with red lights like this, which adds to the "do not intrude" type of feeling. Overall, I really like this particular device for all these reasons and think I might order another one!

The item was defective - no sound alarm at all. I attempted twice to reach the seller. Bad customer service. However, Amazon was great and helped with my full refund.

I looked for a solar security device which I could add my own recording and this was the only one I found in my price range. I wanted a device to deter people hanging out by my garage (alas, a chosen alcove for sketchy characters in the neighborhood).It came charged but I kept in sun-patch for a day. I installed on my garage and have had it up for a week, and so far that charge seems sufficient, recharging itself with solar.See thoughts below about motion-sensitivity, recording, remote, and lights. See *UPDATE/TIP* at end of review.Motion-detect: For my urban situation, I find that the motion sensor is too sensitive and wish I could adjust the sensitivity (not an option on this model). I do like that the volume can be easily adjusted, as I have had to play with that. I initially had it too loud for my dense neighborhood, especially given it was going off so frequently.Recording: Easy to record, I wanted to use a bi-lingual “Attention. Security camera and alarm is now activated” and was able to set that up using online translation tool, then pasting the bilingual text into a iOS screen reader and added alarm from phone. You can just use your own voice but I preferred the generic computerized voice. I was able to do trial and error recording several times until I was happy with result. It holds a 20-sec recording and plays 2x while bright red lights flash (i.e. 40-sec per motion detected). Neither the microphone nor speaker is of great quality but good for this price point. I find the pre-recorded dogs-plus-gunshots would be far too aggressive, but that is standard with device for those who want it (I wish it was just dog barks).Remote: Note the remote only seems to work when directly near it and NOT from a distance greater than 5 or 6 feet away. In other words, handy for post-installation adjustments to mode and volume but you cannot use it from any significant distance. The device itself has buttons for those settings but the remote means you don’t have to haul out the ladder each time you want to make those adjustments.Light: This device only has red flashing lights set off by motion detection, they are somewhat bright and are very effective. This device does NOT function as a light itself. I have it installed directly over a dawn-to dusk outdoor light which, thankfully, does not interfere with the device’s ‘nighttime only’ mode.*UPDATE/TIP* After having the device a few months, I found that despite setting the volume mid-range the device would change itself to its highest volume. In my urban situation this was a BIG problem with the neighbors. I had to take the device down and rerecord the personalized message much quieter. *TIP* Expect the device to play at highest volume. Avoid adding a tone/alarm as this seems to carry further than vocals. Note that I asked company about this apparent malfunction but they did not provide an answer.

I was really excited about this product because not only was it loud, but you are able to record your own recordings. But then a month later it Just stopped working. I guess I should feel lucky that it died when it did because I was considering buying another.
