I have used a lot of portable solar fence chargers for my electrical net fencing and have found that this works just as I would hope. The 1.5 joules means that it has enough oomph to keep a couple of my net fences charged. The shock doesn't throw you to the ground by any means, but I have found that it doesn't take much to remind my farm animals or pets to stay away from the fencing. The predators that I generally need to protect against are fox, skunks and opossums, which all seem to steer clear of the fencing as well. One thing that I really like is that the solar panel can be attached to the unit or not. There is just enough wiring to allow you to mount the panel at a different orientation than the charger/battery.

It's such a low voltage we can't use it. We have nigerian dwarf goat and kunekune pigs. This is not anywhere near strong enough to keep them in or predators out. It was easy to set uo and may work for smaller animals

This has a rugged feel to it and I think it will hold up for years mounted on a livestock fence. The mounting system is three screws (you will need to screw a board to a post). I like the use of the word "grumpy" for animals that require a bit more shock :). It comes with an AC charger in case you run into a cloudy spell.

I set this out to test the charging and output. Took a day or so to get the battery up in the 90% plus range. Over the several weeks it has been out, the charge level goes up and down between 60-100%. I don't believe I have seen it lower than that. Mind you this is no load just running with solar panel collecting. My fence voltage gauge test reads about 8.5k volts. Digital readout says 8k. So it does put out as described, again no fence load at test. I would say, with the variation of charge, and variations of cloud cover, get the panel in as full sun as possible. My test was done in full sun with all but morning exposure.I"d say its a decent , streamlined unit.

I am initially testing this out on a small 3 strand fence we keep around our nursery orchard to keep sheep out. Our previous unit was half the joules and showing signs of slowing down. Right out of the box I really appreciate this unit. I have had several other units by the same company and they have been doing great all summer.I like the large easy to handle plastic case with bright colour. Also it coms with a couple alligator clips with lugs on the other end for easily securing and attaching to your fencing. Finally, the LCD screen is a first for me with a fencer. indicates battery charge status, pluse time setting, volts. Battery started at 34% out of the box and rain most of the day, sun for the last 30 minutes and it is up to 55%, very nice. So just a few hours of sun should keep this thing well charged.Output is as indicated at 8kv. Even wiht a severe need to trim the bottom wire which is completely encased in wet grass, this unit is powering through and gave me a good jump. The solar panel has an interesting clip/stand. The only thing I would change to start is a longer cable so the solar panel could be plugged in a little further from the unit itself. Finally, the unit just has mounts for something like a screw or nail head, but no big deal, adapt as needed. Also comes with an AC plug to pre-charge the battery or for an extra boost should you need it.Excellent unit and I would definitely recommend this.

Followed the instruction to fully charge before using, after 2 days of charging with the AC adapter and the unit won't go above 59%. I tried the solar panel to make sure it wasn't something wrong with the adapter and it was the same. Remove the cover to see if I could get another battery and could not find a match of the part number. I tried to deep cycle the battery by running it at the 59% charge, within 15 minutes the unit showed 95% charge, this was during the discharge. Left the unit run over night and it only went down to 92%, so now it is charging and discharging normally.Hooked up to a temporary fence, 2 runs of poly wire around 900 feet total, the unit has discharged less than 10% overnight and shows a full charge within 2 hours of sunrise.I do like the unit but am a little concerned about getting replacement batteries, I have not found anywhere to get them yet. I use these type of charger to protect newly planted saplings from deer, most of them are deep in the forest where brush removal has formed big bare areas.I have another charger from this company that has worked for going on 2 years so they have good products.

It seem well built. It charges well. Once I fully charged it, it held its charge with the sun. I was a great price. It was very easy to setup.
