Love it. . I look forward to designing my next pair of socks using the different patterns available.

Easy to follow directions for various structural elements, with several variants of heels and toes I had never encountered before like the origami and star. My only complaint is the entire book is written for DPN so I have to convert the patterns to two circular (rather than breaking the sole of the foot onto two double pointed needles they are on the same circular needle and any pattern nuances have to be kept in mind instead of following the pattern as written). I love the design your own sock flip element where you can see what each foot style looks like with different patterned ankles and cuffs.

There were fewer choices for heels and toes than I was hoping for, but was still a good purchase.

This book is a must have for any sock knitter! The book gives you countless options to mix and match the sock design elements. This is great for creating your own unique socks!

This is a truly innovative approach to sock knitting, because the author has organized patterns in such a way as to permit the reader to cherry-pick what style of toe, gusset, heel, leg etc. to use in order to create a plenitude of patterns for socks. Each part of a sock has its own 1/3 page, so one can flip through the various elements until one has the perfect design. An elastic at the back of the book allows the reader to hold the selected pages in place. The author used plain yarn in this book, so the stitches can be clearly seen. 10/10 for this clever book!

Lots of nice patterns to knit toe up socks. Especially happy with the different options for knitting heels. I have knit some toe up socks in the past, & I have not always been happy with the directions for the heels. This book gives you the option to pick the toe style you like, the heel style you like, the leg pattern you like & the cuff pattern you like. I can knit the perfect sock!

Quite a nice book but all of the patterns are written with the thought that everyone's ankle is the same size - though anyone who's had some knitting experience can likely make them larger.

As a very experienced knitter, I'd never knitted toe-up socks and thought this would be a useful reference. But there are too many errata in the book to make it worthwhile.Firstly, there is no information on how to adjust for different sizes.Secondly, there aren't as many variations as the writers claim, because each toe type / heel type is repeated a few times to look like there are more.Thirdly, there are MANY mistakes in the instructions. I assumed it was my mistake at first and ruined a skein of very expensive yarn by ripping it out several times while I worked out what the instructions were meant to say. At least I could work it out - a less experienced knitter would struggle.I don't think anyone even checked that the number of stitches remained constant, let alone tested any of the patterns by knitting them. I won't buy any more by these writers as they clearly allow a book to be published without proofreading it.It would be cheaper to buy a couple of toe-up patterns and use a standard stitch reference for the "leg" parts.Great idea, badly done.

I am a huge fan of two at a time, toe up socks, and a former sufferer if SSS (second sock syndrome). I really love this series of books, if only for the pattern ideas it provides. This book, like the other two in the series, has some great patterns and I love the ability to mix and match bodies with cuffs. The instructions are clear (for most of the patterns at least) and there is a variety of difficulty from very simple to more challenging patterns. Unlike a lot of sock books, the patterns here are not for one particular size, but are instead worker over "x" stiches, which allows you scale up or down as appropriate for your project. The book itself is coil-bound inside the hard cover, which allows it to not only lay flat, but take advantage of the flip-book aspect. There is also an elastic strap which can be used as either a bookmark, or to hold your selections in the flip-book section down. It's quite user friendly with decent sized print that is easy to read. That said, this is not a book that I would recommend as a means of learning to knit toe-up socks (or this series for socks at all) as there are better ones out there: Ann Budd's Getting Started: Knitting Socks is where I started (until I developed SSS) and then moved on to Melissa Morgan Oakes 2-at-a-time Socks (I have both the cuff down and toe up versions of her books and refer back to them often as they have great step-by-step instructions). I do, however, recommend this book as a reference for those like me who can't decide what they want to do for their next pair of socks. There is so much inspiration in this book you can't wait to hop in the car and go pick out your next project yarn.

I found this book and was very excited to get it and start working patterns from it. I love the creative design of the book, and the flexibility of having all the separate parts that I can mix and match. By doing this, it sets itself up to be not necessarily a step-by-step beginners guide to their first socks, but aimed for the relative newbie, since I assume that more experienced sock knitters would already have their own mix-match patterns in their history. Unfortunately, the descriptions are a little confusing, and don't work out all that well. There is only one small bubble at the front that talks about the gauge (8sts to the inch), and wasn't very informative on good starting spots for different weights of yarn, and different needle sizes. It also says that they designed all the patterns with dpns in mind, but they obviously used circulars in the first book, and then used some of the instructions from that first one in this one. The cast on methods for instance use circulars, and then you're magically supposed to be on dpns to follow with the next stage of the pattern. I knit a gauge swatch to be sure that I was getting their 8 sts, and after measuring my foot, casting on and knitting to the pattern, I ended up with a baggy floppy sock that was especially far too loose in the heel. Ended up switching to another sock pattern part way through that saved my sock. I would not even give this book away to a knitting friend, let alone recommend buying it to anyone.

I admit to being a collector of knitting books. Most of them are wonderful eye candy which I enoy and place on my bookshelf for "someday" use. This is not one of those books. This is like a great cookbook which you cannot live without. I am truly amazed how useful and well written this book is. I like that the authors assume basic knitting skills because not every book can be everything to all readers. This book assumes the basics and does not bore you with the how to knit, purl, choose your yarn, and worse snore the ever popular anatomy of a sock. It goes straight to a mix and match collection of toe, heel, leg, and cuff patterns that ANY sock knitter will enjoy, cherish, and use regularly. Hats off to a great book. I give this high marks.

i like this book for the most part. there are a few errors here and there, and some of the page counts in the "flip book" section are off.i really like the wide selection of toes and heels, and many of the patterns are fun. however, i wish the book gave instructions for different sizes of socks (e.g., 58, 64, 72, etc.) so that readers could see how the construction works on different counts AND so that people with larger or smaller legs and feet could knit the socks easily, without having to spend a lot of time figuring out how to size up or size down. but, this is a problem i have with a lot of sock books, not just this one.
