This is a snap installing kit. It's for snaps, not grommets, so if you need to install grommets you'll need a different tool.It works very well for snaps. It installs cleanly with a reasonable amount of pressure - no sweating or propping the tool on my workbench to get enough downward force. I installed snaps through a thin faux leather and through a faux fur with no issues whatsoever.You can switch out the size of the snap using a magnetic system. This was a mild concern to me since we are working with some pressure here as well as movement and I was worried they would slip or misalign. I have not had that problem yet, hopefully it holds up well.

Delivered on time with nothing missed, tool works as described, was able to repair my leather jacket snap, comes with instructions for easy use and an carrying case I didn't even know about this is a great product and the snap worked with my original one just fine recommend highly for the money.

If you do any kind of repairs or DIY projects, this snap fastener kit is the way to go. It comes with 80 snaps in different colors, so you’ve got options whether you're fixing tarps, leather, or even clothing (This along with tarps!).The tool itself is well-built with a nice heavy feel, it does not feel cheap at all, and the molded grip makes it comfortable to use, even for bigger hands.It’s easy to use, despite one reviewer saying there were no instructions, you can easily figure it out. The double-lever system makes snapping buttons or punching holes next to effortless, and the hole punch is built right in. Practice the punching on a scrap piece to get the hang of it first.The storage case is great it keeps everything organized, portable and in one spot. It works well on thinner materials, leather, fabric etc. anything thicker than 1/8" and it really struggles. Hockey helmet strap it can handle, definitely a handy tool to have around!5-Stars

One of those tools you don't think you'll ever need, until you have one and then you use it all the time!I have been looking at professional leather snap presses and unfortunately they've been out of my price range. When this portable snap tool went past my feed I was very interested in testing it out. I've got a number of uses, including fixing snaps onto leather work.Initial impressions.I was very happy to see the quality of the carrying case was excellent when I first opened it up. A flexible, but very sturdy hard shell case with a decent zipper holds everything fairly secure inside. One side of the case has a couple elastic bands which hold the punch tool. A centre "page" with 2 zippered pockets each side gives you four mesh pockets to hold your loose components. Finally, the opposite side contains an elastic, mesh pocket which holds each of the included snap sets.There are included a great variety and volume of snap sets with this kit. I expect them to last me quite a while. They're all standard snap sizes so I expect finding replacements when running low will be fairly straight forward.In addition to all of the snaps, included as well are three magnetic dies. Two for setting your snaps and one for punching holes in your chosen material. I would not expect the punch to be very effective. It's design is fairly blunt and the included direction sheet shows it being used to punch through thin leather. I would not rely on it for punching through thick material. It works surprisingly well, although I've not tested it out on thicker leather.My only complaint with the punch die is that it's actually sized slightly too small for the snaps included! If your material is stiff, you may have a bit of trouble getting the snap shaft through it, and may find yourself manually widening the hole with an awl, or maybe making multiple punches in a small area to widen your holes. If your material is flexible, it'll be easier. If you've got a separate punch with variable diameter cutter heads you'll fair much better. Just a small issue really. Still not a deal breaker.I did find when removing one of the dies after use, that one of the small neodymium magnets set into its surface was left behind, stuck to the surface of the punch base. So I had to put it back in place in the die and glue it with some CA glue. Just a small hiccup in the grand scheme of things.Setting a snap as shown in the instruction sheet has four steps. First, use the punch die to punch a hole in your material. Second, insert the flat die and use it to press fit your snap cap. Third, use the dimpled die to set your snap base and inner snap onto the opposite material side. Simple and effective.The tool is fairly rugged, constructed of appropriately thick steel. It only takes a moderate amount of squeezing pressure to properly press the snap in place.Overall I'd say this kit is excellent, with few minor faults. The case is robust and holds everything. Included is a generous volume and variety of snaps. (including screw in snap bases as well) The dies are quick to install (magnetically snapping in place. despite the loose magnet re-glue I mentioned above) A great portable compact kit that I think you will get lots of use out of.

Ok, even if you can sew, snaps are nice for some applications. They are a little heavy duty for thin fabrics (think womens dresses). However when the zipper broke on my work hoodie, 5 buttons and 30 minutes later I had a “functional” sweater again for around the house (albeit not super stylish). 5 minutes after that a decorative throw pillow case that the dog had nibbled the zipper on was repaired (however this fabric was pretty thin for it). With my sweater I can just hulk open it, but with the pillowcase I want to gently open each button carefully.While all that’s cool, I actually have these for the shop and for tarps and different outside fabrics. I’d say 2-5 minutes puts on a set of buttons, although it is more efficient if you do a bunch at a time (ie all the holes, change dies, all the male buttons, change dies, all the female buttons).I like the fact that it has its own case, but I did wish there was a separate compartment for the dies to stay.There will come a time when you run out of buttons. I measured the buttons and the round ones are 15 and 13mm to the outside with 4mm male pieces to fit inside the 4.2/4.5mm female pieces. Essentially all my dimensions matched the ones in .The included buttons appear to be stainless, with basically no magnetic properties at all. They do “jingle a bit” on the “button” side of it. I didn’t like the way the die appears to go in on an angle, however as it finishes the press it definitely straightens up, and all my joints have appeared good. I do sometimes have to give it a little rap with something to release the button from the die after pressing, although I may be over crimping.At the end of the day, this is my first button crimping set, so I don’t know how the value compares to others on the market, but the quality seems good, and I could recommend the set to any of my friends (although I’d likely just loan them mine).

I have had many grommet and snap fittings repairs over the years, and it was *never* a job I looked forward to. This won't helps with grommets, but it will make this size snap a breeze to replace.Within the limits of 3 to 4mm depth, this easily punched through some soft leather, and tarp material. The magnetic dies are a neat but somewhat scary feature as it would be quite easy to knock it loose and perhaps drop it. Have to keep an eye on that. All crimping tools I have ever used before (electrical, cat5, etc) all had a positive lock of the replaceable dies usually with a screw to hold very firmly in place. I didn't have any issue this initial time, its just a concern.The case is the standard hard nylon, and it came with quite a selection of fasteners - which I will take with me to my local Tandy leather and get the size for refills. The tool is quite heavy in the hand, which is good, and the grips were very ergonomic for me, and I have pretty big hands.I can recommend, so long as you aren't trying to push it beyond the limits of what it was designed for - lightweight materials up to 3 to 4mm.

This tool makes precise holes every time! I no longer struggle with blurring when installing snaps. Fantastic!
