It works well with Alexa, including voice control and routines. We have routines setup to where the fan turns on when we go to bed and off when we wake up. It's very convenient for us, as our fan is installed on a box that was designed for a light only and doesn't have seperate fan controls (and the controls are across the room anyway). The electronics box is pretty large, so figuring out how to fit it in the fan housing could be a challenge depending on how your fan is designed to mount to the ceiling. Our has a wide "flush mount" base and I ended up popping the plastic cover off and screwing it into the ceiling to secure it. The only drawback is that you have to install some random new app, but honestly that's the case with all of these types of devices. Once it's installed and linked to your Alexa you don't have to worry about it again.

Our Hunter 44" Fan (model 59246) controller stopped working so I decided to replace it with one that is Alexa compatible. After reading the reviews and confirming the wiring diagram, I chose this one. The most difficult part was standing on the ladder to reach the fan hanger where it connects to the 10' ceiling. With the failed controller removed and the new one in place I opened the Smart Life app on my phone, which I had previously used for Amazon Smart Plugs. As soon as I tapped the "+" to add a device it found the newly installed Ceiling Fan (controller) and gave me the opportunity to name both the fan and the light. I called them "Our Bedroom Fan" and "Our Bedroom Light".The app then asked if I wanted to have Alexa assign a ready-made skill to it. Immediately I could turn both the fan and the light on and off. However, any time I tried a phrase to have it change the fan speed Alexa told me she didn't know how to do that command. I did some searching online but nothing really provided an answer. So, for my first time ever, I posted a question on Amazon where the reviews for this controller are located. Within hours I got three replies, all indicating that Alexa CAN control the fan speed. But the top vote goes to Phil E. who replied with one sentence, "Yes, simply say ‘Alexa office fan speed 2’ if your device and fan were in your office."I tried it, and indeed, it works just as Phil said it would. So maybe my five stars, for the controller than “Just Works" should also be for Phil!

I installed this to replace a fan controller that we had lost the remote to. The controller was the same size as the old one so I had no problem with tucking it up in the space. Wires were same color as old controller, so that was a cinch. The app on my phone was easy to set up, so now if we lose this remote we can still control the fan. I did have difficulty getting it set up with Alexa and eventually abandoned that idea. It came to a screen that said "launch" (the skill), but it never seemed to integrate into Alexa. No biggy, 2 out of 3 ways to control the fan isn't bad. Other review posters seemed to be able to figure it out, but I could not. Would have gotten a 5 star review if smartlife app easily integrated.

The receiver fits into the frame of a ball & socket style ceiling fan mount, sitting between the gang box and the drop pole for a fan. It will not fit inside a gang box, and it does not work well with low profile fans fan covers that hug the ceiling unless you use a large cover, or beat the snot out of a low profile cover. I have seven of these units, they work well so far. The manual remote works as expected. The "Smart Life" application integrates well with Alexa, and is pretty simple. The app is able to offer 3 fan speeds, while the light is a simple onoff.

This product will not work with all fans if you have a fan that the cover encloses the fan motor it will not work with that type of fan. These work as sad ND even allows you to control both the light and fan by voice keep the light switch on and the unit separated it in the box. Only thing you have to watch out for it the amount of room you have to install this unit. It fit in my fan a little snug but it fit. Remote works as well.

I had a generic Home Depot remote control fan in my daughter's room that one day died on us. Pulled off the cover and it still had power but the little controller thing was dead(almost identical to this one). It came with the house and it looks like the control module is an OEM part for the fan when I looked it up. So this part replaces the HD brand remote ceiling fan controller module to a T.It had the exact same wiring, no surprises, worked right out of the box, no need to pair the remote or anything. But... the fan beeps every time it receives a command. I looked it up and eventually got the beep shut off. In the Smart Life app(the fan must be on, fan motor not just the light) under settings there is an option button called "voice". Now, if you are a tiny bit tech savvy, the first thing you think of when you see voice is voice control via Google or Alexa. I guess the first thing the manufacturer/app developer thought of was "the fan must be given a voice so that customers know it heard their command". Weird but documented reasonably on the internet so after some digging I got it shut off.Issue that can't be fixed: It still makes a kind of loud, audible click whenever it receives a command. Press the light button: CLICK. Turn fan from medium speed to slow speed: CLICK. I mean, it's pretty loud. Like slightly quieter than the dryer door locking. Otherwise it's a serviceable replacement for a Home Depot generic fan controller.
