World Class Optics
Our Maksutov optical tubes deliver refractor-like views and superior contrast while allowing for larger apertures at a fraction of the cost. Using lens elements and reflective mirrors, you’ll benefit from Sky-Watcher’s dedication to quality optics. Sky-Watcher’s SkyMax series features a borosilicate primary and secondary mirror with a quartz overcoat, producing 94% reflectivity. The corrector plate utilizes our signature Metallic High-Transmission Coatings (MHTC), giving visual astronomers professional grade optics to create a unique viewing experience.
Wifi Enabled, App Controlled
The AZ-GTi generates it’s own Wifi signal, allowing users to control the telescope directly from their iOS or Android devices. Once connected to the mount, use Sky-Watcher’s SynScan Pro app to align the mount for celestial tracking or for timelapse photography, video, and panoramas.
Adjustable Aluminum Tripod
The AZ-GTi includes an adjustable aluminum tripod with built in pier extension however, the AZ-GTi can also attach to nearly any photographic tripod using a standard 3. 8”-16 thread.
Integrated SNAP Port
No need for an intervelometer timer with the AZ-GTi! With a 60-second preset exposure setting, the AZ-GTi can trigger a DSLR using the auxiliary shutter release cable. Once the camera is plugged into the mount and a shot is fired, it will continually shoot 60 second exposures until the cable is removed.

Delivery was fairly quick. Had some issues initially all due to operator error....once I took some time to get familiar with it I had no problem using the Synscan Pro App. I downloaded from Google Play. It's very intuitive and the Sky-Watcher AZ-GTi mount works well. No problem locating objects. I haven't used it long enough to use all the features...i.e., tracking etc. mostly due to the weather here in Calgary but I'm looking forward to using more once the sky permits. Good beginner scope and I would recommend this seller and product. 5 stars

This is my 5th telescope, and I could have saved some time, expense, and headache by simply starting here. I also have an 8" Dob and had and sold an 8" goto SCT, plus a couple smaller guys. The dirty little secret of visual astronomy is that there are really only 7-8 real showpiece amazing sights to behold, beyond that and you're splitting double stars (cool the first few times) and averting vision to see faint fuzzies.Having come to this realization a few years into the hobby, I realized that a 4" (102mm) Mak on a highly portable goto mount is the sweet spot for portability (means I'll use it more often) and adequate light gathering for solar system and the bright few globular clusters and nebulae. I might not buy another telescope again (I know, famous last words) as this + my 8" dob gives me lots of flexibility. If I only could have one, I think this is it, because of the portability of the Mak and light weight goto.To power this I don't use AAs but rather bought a $26 Talentcell 12v lithium battery pack and I have no idea how long it lasts - over 18h and few signs of wearing out. I just velcroed it to the goto base.A Mak is a jack of all trades and a mid-sized Mak (102mm) has really excellent tradeoffs. A 5" is surely better, not sure it has the price-performance quotient though.

Mount is great, no issue there. Skywatcher apparently has 2 version of the 102 Mak telescope. The one sold separately from the mount has optical adjustment/collimation screws. The one sold with the mount does not, and cannot be adjusted. I would not recommend getting this tube/mount combo for that reason. The small savings vs. Buying separately is not not worth it. (The 102 with collimation adjusting screws has good reviews)The difference is visible in the product photos, but you need to zoom way in and know what you are looking for at the back of the scope...(My OTA arrived out of alignment)

Warning!!! Skywatcher quality control is horrible. I purchased this mount because it was lightweight. I am 80 with back and shoulder problems. The mount simply does not work as advertised. The hand controller port does not work. The mount can’t even find polaris. Great idea. Horrible execution. It is going to cost me over $600 to have an expert fix it. Recommend a vixen ports in manual mount.

One thing I was a bit disappointed with is that the OTA in this bundle with the mount is somewhat different from the standalone OTA sold by Skywatcher. This is not immediately clear from the Skywatcher website. After the scope arrived, I inspected the images on the website more closely and the back cell is different in the standalone versus the combo. I contacted Skywatcher and they confirmed (rather quickly in their defense) that while the optics are identical the cells in this OTA version are not metal and can’t be collimated by the user but would have to be send in for servicing. Apparently Mak-Cas telescopes rarely need collimation so I hope this is not becoming an issue but I find it rather sneaky that this fact is not clearly mentioned on the websites. I hadn’t run into this before despite researching this scope and mount quite intensely so I figured I mention it here.I am new to astronomy and I am not sure what exactly to expect from an entry level telescope and Goto mount. The 102mm Mak-Cas OTA is really small and lightweight and pretty easy to use. Seeing details on Jupiter, and the rings of Saturn is quite a treat. The optics seem to be quite good and in good collimation. The scope is good for planets and double stars and the like, however dimmer objects are a challenge due to the high F ratio (f/13), especially under urban skies with lots of light pollution like mine. The Mak can be used for terrestrial viewing as well. You probably want to buy a 32mm Plossl for the biggest field of view and even then you are at 40X magnification which is quite a lot but it works. I also got a 45° correct image prism so that the views wouldn’t be mirrored. For the mount I am less sure how to feel, since I don’t have experience with other Goto mounts. Setup of the mount and the Wi-Fi connection was rather straight forward for me. Sometimes I seem to lose the Wi-Fi connection however this doesn’t seem to affect the calibration in any obvious way and I can just reconnect and keep going. Slewing via the cell phone controls is a bit finicky since obviously there is no haptic feedback and the buttons are not located right at the edges of the phone, but it is certainly manageable.I am less confident about the accuracy of the mount. I am using it in alt-az mode and I am trying my best to level it and point it north, then go through the north level or two or three-star alignment. This process is not difficult to do and an object seems to be tracked well once found. Also other targets in the vicinity can be found quite straight forwardly (with some correction via the view in the eyepiece). However anything that is far away in the night sky almost never can be directly seen in the telescope but is off at least a degree or two and very often much more. Since the maximum field of view of the 102mm Mak is about 1.2° (with a 32mm Plossl eyepiece) this means I need to manually correct every time I slew to a new target if it is not close by. For bright objects this is not a big problem however for anything faint it becomes a bit annoying and I typically first slew to a bright star nearby, realign by centering it, before I move to something fainter. As I said before, once an object is found the mount seems to track it quite well (although I haven’t tried longer observations over hours).I can’t quite gage if this is to be expected for an entry level mount or if there is something wrong specifically with my mount. I noticed that rotating the mount’s axis manually is quite sticky and shows uneven resistance in the azimuth axis despite a fully loosened clutch. However when engaging the motor(s) I don’t seem to notice any obvious problems (e.g. motor getting unusually loud, whine etc.). I also noticed that sometimes (not always!) the gears seem to have some play in the azimuth axis (with the clutch fully tightened). Not sure why. Engaging the azimuth axis using the motors would eventually solve the problem. So if the accuracy issues I am seeing are in the expected range for this mount I can’t say, for me they are not a deal breaker but I have no experience with other goto mounts to compare this to.I have not tried to use this mount with AA batteries, instead I went for an external battery (Celestron Powertank Lithium LT) which also powers my phone (if needed) and never felt even remotely in danger of running out of power (probably would be good for several nights). The mount can be used fully manually which I am not sure if other Goto Alt-Az mounts can do. I have forgotten my battery before… so at least I could still do some observation that night. You can also use the mount semi manually. This is called FreedomFind and allows for manual movement of the scope without losing your alignment. This function has to be enabled fairly deep in the settings and might reduce overall accuracy so I don’t really use it but I can see how it might be handy. The control app is rather rudimentary but for me has worked fine for the most part. I would prefer to control the mount via a planetarium app like SkySafari Pro. In principle this is possible but you have to run the Skywatcher SynScanPro app together with SkySafari to make it work. On iOS devices this is apparently not really possible. So to make that work you would need two separate iOS devices or a single android device. Funny enough after alignment in the SynScanPro app I can control the mount via SkySafari on my iPhone but the alignment is off and doesn’t seem to be updated in SynScanPro. Anyway, rather unexpected restriction for iOS devices but I might buy a tablet anyway at some point. Overall I am happy this this telescope and the mount. The appeal is to have a telescope on a fairly sturdy tripod and mount with Goto function in a relatively light weight and compact package is appealing to me. The mount seems to have its limitations and hiccups but overall it allows me to explore the night skies as a beginner rather conveniently.

I've been an amateur astronomer for several years now. This is my 4th telescope, and I'm pretty happy with it. The tripod and mount are great. I like how the motorized mount uses an app (something I was initially weary of); it actually simplifies and speeds up the alignment process. The OTA (the telescope itself) is a decent performer, but it's optics are better for brighter objects like planets and not so great for deep-sky objects like nebulae (It has a rather narrow field of view). I think it would be a great scope for a beginner or someone who primarily will be looking at planets and the moon. I'll likely upgrade this OTA soon to something that observes nebulae and clusters better, as those are my favorite viewing objects. I'm primarily using this as my "travel scope", as the whole thing (except for tripod) can fit in a small case, and you could probably even find a smaller tripod if you looked around enough!
