It retains its last setting when the power is interrupted, perfect if you're using a timer to control your lights. There WAS a CR2025 battery included in the package. If you press the MODE button, first press makes the strip blink on/off relatively fast, second press is blinking VERY fast, third press makes it step thru the brightness levels from low to high every half second. Don't know why you'd ever use the MODE button.

Imagine my frustration when I was all ready to hook up the dimmer to the lights only to find that I needed to head to a hardware store to purchase batteries in order to use this product. For what this thing cost the battery should have been included. I also was expecting to see manual dimming controls on this dimmer controller, but it doesn't have any, so in order to use it you have to keep batteries on hand because that is the only way to control this dimmer. I am taking away 2 stars due to it not including batteries and not having manual controls on the dimmer. It could have been a 5 star dimmer with manual controls and include a $4 battery.

Purchased the dimmer to tone down the tape light intensity. It works great! Offers several settings for intensity reduction from 100% - 10%.
