I bought 2 of these for my husband to take in his boat. They got him out of some sticky situations without him needing to jump in and swim to shore. It was money well spent. They are sturdy and not too heavy where he would get worn out easily. They looked exactly like the picture shows. We would definitely buy again if we are in need.

So far, these oars are awesome.I've done a lot of maintenance on my old 5 year old oars, but these ones are totally better right out of the gate. If you use oars on a rowboat, these are what you want.

I ordered these oars to replace my old broken oars I have for my row boat. One would think that the dimensions for an oar would be more or less universal. Obviously I was wrong. My oar was a little over 1 1/4" diameter. These new oars were only 1". All good until you try to tighten up your oar locks. Didn't want to return, so I improvised with schedule 40 1 1/2" pvc. Cut it in half and take out about 1/4" so there is a gap between. Slip them in and now it can be tightened. Been nice if the diameter was mentioned or they included thickness shims....Look at photosHope this helps.

Norwegian pine and basswood are nearly identical and both are good for regular rowing because they are a softwood. I would be cautious to use them as a push pole in shallow water or to bottom drag to get out of the shallows. But they are perfectly ok for rowing on open water in decent currents and winds.Solid with no defects and a nice attached grip.

I have not gotten this on the water yet but I wanted to post this review in response to a lot of the ones I saw where they've shattered the oar in half. The shaft on this is comparable to a heavy duty shovel or yard tool. The oar face is longer and less wide than a normal plastic one but still looks to have enough surface area to be capable enough for paddling. I purchased a single 7-footer to be used as a utility oar for my shallow water Jon boat with a mud motor. This will replace not only a standard 4 ft plastic paddle but also a six and a half foot pole that I use to get offshore and to maneuver in shallow rivers and creeks that I'm floating down. Everything about this feels high quality and I can't wait to get it out on the water!

I purchased this in April of this year to replace oars for my row boat. I noticed that after about two months the oar had a slight split at the blade. I was disappointed and was going to attempt to repair it at the end of the season. However it never made it through one more use. While rowing my boat to the ramp to remove it from the lake, the one oar broke in half. Luckily I was close to shore and could then wade back to the shore towing the boat behind me. This could have been much worse had it been very windy or if I had been in the middle of the lake where it was deeper. This product is very bad. I want a refund or replacement.

Nice new product but only bought one to replace my broken one. This new one is a smaller diameter ( 1- 5/16 inches) and my old one (1-7/16 inches). This is not much of a difference but it is 1/8 inch. Overall nice product.

One of the most annoying things I encountered in shopping online for oars is the almost complete absence of oar shaft diameters from the dimension information. This oar is no exception. Length and dimensions of the paddle portion are universally specified for oars. Why no information on diameter, which is vital for knowing how oarlocks and oar collars will fit and how stiff the shaft will be? These oars were ordered in the hope they would turn out to be 1.25" or 1.5" in diameter. On receipt I discovered that dia = 1", too small for the oar collars and one type of oarlock I'd ordered in the hope that my guess was correct.
