A simple solution compared to a camalot. The cable is just long enough to be useful but compact enough to be easily carried in a pocket. I wish it had a weight rating and some way to cover the hook so it would not damage a pocket. The double-pronged hook easily secures onto reefs and rocks. I think it will also be useful for river diving.

Tenía uno de marca que se perdió en algún viaje. Este es más potente, tanto el gancho más grande como el cable es más duro. Con el que tenía antes me daba un poco de miedo que eso se soltara o partiera en mitad de una corriente, pero con este... Tiene fuerza y resistencia para engancharse bien a la roca y olvidarse.

A reef hook in scuba diving is absolutely not an everyday piece of gear, due to the danger the item poses to both corals, marine life, and divers. In very particular circumstances, like some manta ray sites in Hawaii on high current pinnacles, or when executing underwater photography in rocky (not coral!) biomes, they can be used with care. As such, I'll admit I've never taken this item in the water. However, I will judge it on the quality of construction, which I shall rate as high. The metal is stainless steel, the coated wire coil is of appropriate length when coiled and extended, and the double D-rings are appropriate for containing the apparatus in transit underwater. The hooks are sharp, unnecessarily so. Before I'd actually dive with this (not sure when that'll happen), I'd file them down to dramatically blunt them. Made in China, which most divers avoid, but as this isn't life support equipment I'd be willing to trust it.

Der erste Eindruck überzeugt durch Größe des Hakens und das verwendete Material. Die verwendeten Karabiner und auch die Verpflanschung des Edelstahlseiles im Kunstoffüberzug ist stabil und belastbar.Durch die große Hakenform und zwei Hakenspitzen eignet er sich perfekt für Tauchplätze mit viel Felsstruktur und festen -vorsprüngen.Es gibt auch Modelle mit einem kleineren Hakendurchmesser, die sich etwas leichter in der Jackettasche mitführen lassen und man die Haken eher in den Löchern eher poröser Riffstrukturen einhängt. Dieses Modell hier kann nur außen am Jacket angehängt werden, ist also mehr geeignet, wenn man weiß, dass der Haken zum Einsatz kommen wird.Ich habe diesen Riffhaken als Ersatz meines vorherigen Riffhakens bestellt, den ich beim letzten Tauchurlaub am Tauchplatz lassen musste, kann also noch nicht sagen, wie dieser hier im Praxistest abschneidet, will aber meine letzte Erfahrung bei Benutzung eines ähnlichen Riffhakens teilen, denn auch bei über 1.000 TG lernt man nicht aus:Man sieht oft in der Karibik und Asien, wo es die richtig starken Strömungen gibt, selbst gemachte Riffhaken mit großem Haken und dicker Kordel. Aber Marke Eigenbau ist hier dann nicht immer leicht nachbaubar, da der Baumarkt dann doch nicht die richtigen Haken, Karabiner und Verbindungen hat. Daher hatte auch ich bislang den Modelltyp mit Edelstahlseil, wie hier vorliegend. Allerdings ist der mir nun zum Verhängnis geworden. Denn wir waren in einer so heftigen (Vollmond-) Strömung rund um ein Thila, dass ich beim Einholen des Hakens nicht mehr an ihn heran kam.Meine Finger glitten wie an Wachs am Kunststoffcover des Edelstahlseils entlang, ich kam trotz Flossenschlag nicht an den Haken. Die Strömung presste auch noch die Luftdusche meines Oktopus und mein Buddy hing 15 Meter vor mir mit Gesicht in die andere Richtung. Ich versuchte erst, das Edelstahlseil um meinen Handknochen zu wickeln, um irgendwie etwas näher ran zu kommen. Dumme Idee, denn es blieb nicht am Knochen sondern schnitt meinen kleinen Finger ab. Es war der erste Tag einer Tauchsafari, aber das Einzige, was am Ende blieb, war , den Riffhaken vom Jacket zu lösen und dort zu lassen.Daher wäre mein Tipp, bei diesem Haken eine Kordel durch das Spiralkabel zu ziehen, um die Kraft und Unverwüstlichkeit des Edelstahlseiles mit dem Vorteil des Kordelseils zu kombinieren, das auf Spannung mehr Grip und Halt für die Hände in der gleichen Situation bietet. Ich habe dafür ein 12mm Seil bestellt, aber es ist zu dick, wenn man kein Monstrum mit sich führen will. Da reicht ein etwas dünneres Kletterseil.Ich empfehle durch mein Erlebnis die Befestigung des Riffhakens auch ausschließlich nur an Edelstahl-O-Ringen am Tauchjacket - und nur an die man IMMER hinkommt und vor Augen hat. Die Karabiner hier sind zwar sehr stabil, aber wenn das Gegenstück ein eckiges Kunststoffendteil der Schultergurte ist, kann es wegen der Kerbe nahe der Schließe dort eher verhaken und das braucht man nicht in einer extremen Strömungssituation, die uns trotz einheimischer Diveguides und Tidetabellen nicht erspart werden konnte. DAHER: im Ernstfall sich vom Haken LOSMACHEN, die guten Tauchboote haben immer Reserve dabei.

18,69€Un accessoire qui n'est pas toujours indispensable en plongée mais quand on prévoit une plongée dans un lieu avec beaucoup de courant honnêtement cela devient nécessaire, avec ce genre d'objet on peut s'accrocher un rocher par exemple et éviter de se fatiguer à nager à contre-courant tout en profitant des richesses des fonds marins. L'accessoire se fixe au gilet stabilisateur à l'aide d'un mousqueton, un deuxième mousqueton à l'autre extrémité de l'objet permet de sécuriser le crochet et éviter qu'il ne traîne sur le fond. L'objet d'une bonne qualité et résiste bien à la corrosion.

Haven't dived with this in a place where I need a reef hook, but did take it down on a salt water dive just to see how to manage it. The design seems excellent, the materials appear to be high quality and durable, and it's assembled well. I'll add my 2 cents and opine that if you're a recreational diver in a current strong enough to bend or break the hook, or the sturdy carabiners, one of which you attach to a BCD, you shouldn't be diving. The braided cable seems to be made of quality stainless steel, it's protected (reasonably) by what appears to be Tygon tubing, and the ferrules used to form a loop on each end appear to be attached firmly. The cable stretches easily and easily returns to the initial coil when tension is reduced.Just a couple of additional notes. If you use this often enough as intended the plastic tubing over the stainless cable is going to abrade eventually. But for the item's price that's not a deal-breaker in my book.The other point is that I'm assuming the cable is of such quality that it's not likely to corrode after use in salt water, but the plastic sheath isn't quite tight enough on the ends to make a complete seal, so water may well get in, and you might also have trouble washing/soaking any salt (or dirty) water out after a dive. I took some clear silicone sealer and smeared it on the ends of the cable/sheath, and for good measure put more on the flexible black plastic covers that slide over the two cable loops on their ends.Overall, based on design, materials, and construction, this is an excellent item if you need a reef hook, well worth the modest selling price.
