I had an iMac 27 that stopped working but all my files were on the HDD. I had to gain access to the drive (of course) so I had to do some disassembly of the Mac but I had no way to hook up the drive to USB so I could use another computer to save the files to another drive. This device worked great. True "plug and play". I think there are many different options for drive connections (this one on the Mac was 3.5" SATA). I have not tried the other options but I was very happy to access my files and save them. Proved to be a lifesaver for sure.

I love the idea. It did allow me to read some old IDE drives. On standard speed spinning-platter drives the throughput rate seemed to me about on par with mounting drives up internally on my system (using USB 3.0 Hub). It is a bit fiddly, though. A few SATA drives did not want to mount up / stay mounted. THese were drives I suspected might have problems (had some minor SMART flags, but not dead or flagged as dying). I pulled out my eSATA adapter - same issues as this adapter. I plugged the drives to SATA ports on MB and had no problems with mounting/staying mounted etc. So I think I can replace my eSATA adapter with this as it does IDE as well and my eSATA does not. This device seemed about as fast as my eSATA adapter ... but I only tested standard RPM drives with standard transfer rates. All in all, i like it and if all devices function as well as mine, it's probably a solid tool. Would buy again, would recommend, but it does have limitations and isn't as good as connecting drive to the MB.

Having saved my old computers and inheriting my parents computers in the hopes of salvaging the data that was in them at some time in the future, I was running out of closet space. Then I saw and purchased this product. After I had pulled the 7 hard drives from the obsolete and or broken PCs, I was able to use this product to hook each hard drive (one at a time) to my current PC's USB port and review what all was on the old hard drives. Then I was able to quickly copy the files I wanted to my current PC and delete all the programs, data, and files from the old hard drive. This was a very fast and efficient process. It was great to find old photos that I had forgotten about, thought were lost, or had never seen before and be able to save them. I couldn't believe I was able to access hard drives that were very old and of varying configuration with such ease. All were Windows based and all the hard drives were in working order even though the PC itself may or may not have been. I highly recommend this product. Now I can drill a hole through the hard drive and safely recycle them without fear of losing files forever and recycle all the PCs themselves as there is no longer a need to save them.

I had a bunch of digital photos in several outdated PC's that I had given up hope of ever getting. I ordered this adapter as a last attempt to get them. I was surprized to have the unit arrive in nothing more than a clear plastic bag. Luckily none of the adapters or power supply had escaped. Using the illustrations on the order page it was a simple set up. The unit plugged into several different type of hard drives and was recognized by my PC. (I am running windows 10), One of the drives would not read but I suspect the hard drive itself was inoperable. Overall very pleased.

The goodFirst off as some one said you get no light when you turn it on you do if you have a drive connected. I had 7 smaller 2.5 drives SATA DRIVES worked no problems the IDE drives that took a a few times to come up could be the drive has been sitting.THE BAD5 of the 3.5 drives I have could not be read they seem to power up but that’s it had 2 SATA 3.5 and 3 IDE 3.5 all were a fail. And yes I know the drives are good.Out come sending it back it’s nothing mor then a glorified external adapter I had been using one that a pulled out an external drive. And it works fine. I May try another one from another company.I gave it one star because it simply did not work on any 3.5 drives. So yes it half worked but I really did not need it for 2.5 inch SATA DEIVES I needed it for 3.5 IDE and SATA and that don’t work.

I bought this to try to get the lost files off of my old Seagate GoFlex Home hard drive. It looked like it had the correct connector but it would not connect. It might connect if I torn the drive casing apart but I’m not prepared to do that!

I'm so glad I got this handy little tool. I have 4 hard drives and it was compatible with all of them.
