Very nice breakaway kit, and includes everything to make your trailer safe again. Overall this is exactly as described, and performs as expected.

I liked this because it doesn't use a lead acid battery, so I feel like it will last longer. I installed it on my 5 ton trailer with 4 brakes, and it looks like it will do a good job. I hooked the black charge wire to +12 on my 7 pin harness, but if you don't have +12 to the trailer, I would probably hook it to the left brake line (yellow). The breakaway switch looks pretty strong too, it can probably stand up to more breakaways than your trailer - XD.It's a great setup!

I got this breakaway kit for my trailer because it needed one. I really like this kit because it comes with everything I needed to add this to my trailer. I also like that it has 4 holes on the controller box to mount it very well. I am also happy that it comes with a long cord to connect to my truck while towing. The wiring for this setup was super simple as it connects into the trailer 7 way wiring which was accessible on my trailer. I also really like that it has a button on it to check the batter status to make sure it is charged and functioning.

This has more going on internally than it appears from the outside.Using just a 12V battery and a pull away switch would work too of course. This has a lot more stuff going on.They don't seem to mention it but some electrical testing shows that it has a regulated input that adjusts the charge rate to what they want, probably because of the LiPO4 battery. It will fully charge the internal battery (eventually) from any voltage source between 4V up to 14V in my testing. Wider than what the little booklet says.It adjusts the charge rate (the internally load) electronically by itself to maintain the charge rate it wants. They don't say what that is, but it maintains a 20 to 28 watt charge rate automatically which is plenty fast for a 4Ahr 12V battery. That is quite fast so it gets a bit warm on top.On a 12V battery at 12.8V that would be a 2Amp charge rate that it's using. It "pulls" that much when you give it 12.8V to work with. When the charge voltage is low it still maintains a constant charge rate by adjusting the amps /current higher. If the input voltage is full or high then it turns down the current.Their spec says 12.8V is optimal and that does produce the fastest charge rate of 28 watts.Clearly it adjusts as needed to a wide variety of input levels even as low at 4 -5V and it still charges. For example, here is how it responds to various inputs:4V = 3.1A rate = 12 watts charge rate (slow but it will get there in 3 hours)5V = 3.0A, 15W6V = 2.9A 17W7V = 2.9A = 20W8V = 2.6A = 21W10V = 2.2A 23W (10V or higher = full speed charging)12V = 1.9A 23W12.8V = 2.2A = 28 Watts = max rate14V = 1.7A = 24WIt doesn't appear to regulate the output voltage but it's always between 12 -14.2V.If the battery gets too low then it stops to protect the battery. All done. You would not be able to charge this with a small 5W or 10W solar panel because it takes some power (several amps) to get it started. A 30W panel or more could do it. or connect to a car and it will charge. It does not get hot under a 3Amp input or output load running for an hour.I did not test max load at 10A.I tested the battery capacity with a 4 ohm load pulling 3 Amps on it for a looong time and it ran for just over an hour.. so about 3.5 - 4Ahr. close to what it should be.I did not test if it's short circuit protected. You can do that part. See if it blows up and the smoke gets out. (rarely can I get the smoke back in fully)The charge light works and gets brighter based on incoming voltage, NOT on how full it is.I never saw the low batt light come on, even when it shut down. The battery full light works if you press it, firmly. No, FIRMLY. Really firmly.I can't say long term what the self-discharge rate is but clearly they put some thought into it.It is not waterproof. They tried a little on the top, but not on the back so much.It has a screwed on plastic door and there's no rubber seal so if you dunk it, it will get wet inside pretty quick.Drip-proof.. Yes.Rainproof? Yah.. maybe.Waterproof. Nope. Do not submerge it.It's smarter and more complicated that expected from it's simple appearance and it should work as expected. This could also function as a portable 12V supply by using the White wire as ground, and the blue 12V output as the..... 12V output.Black is the +12V input and does not work as an output. In theory it would charge in 2 hours of having the brake lights or running lights on.It should also work without even connecting it to the 12V car system as long as you wire it into the trailer E-brakes.Not that if the 12V switch/plunger pulls very hard and if so, the E-brakes will go on NOW.if your going 80MPH at the time, then you get burned tires or a flying trailer.Make sure nothing pulls on the E-stop cable while driving or things get exciting real quick. The user manual doesn't really mention that part.
