Been doing some work on my antique Ford tractor and a landplane that required new blades. The old blades were attached with 3/8 inch bolts that were not quite heavy enough and would snap under pressure. By using these step drill bits it easily brings the hole out to half an inch and we're talking about rather thick steel.Since then I have used these on several different projects and they make quick work of creating a hole or enlarging a hole. So far they have held their sharpness nicely so I anticipate quite a bit of usage before they dull to the point that they're no longer beneficial. If you do much work with steel these are a perfect addition to the toolbox.

They’ll make holes about 2-3 times then are burnt. Cheap junk.

These step drills cut agressively but leave smooth holes. I use mainly for sheet metal work (ducting, transitions, plenums, etc.) They will drill wood, but I don't use step drills for wood (but you can). I tried through some 1/4" aluminum bar stock and they chewed righ through it. Watch your speed and feed, cuz they'll get ahead of you if you're not careful and end up with an over-sized hole. They come in a nice little carry bag that I'll lose in 3-2-1. lol. Nice set at a great price and they actually perform good! Very pleased.

They are cheap so just keep that in mind… the design is nice and when they’re brand new they do cut nicely. However the one downside I have found is that they dull rather rapidly and easily. But three of them for the price with a small carrying case isn’t bad they just don’t last long at all before loosing their edge.
