If you use a digital ringtone (play the melody. Speakers with sound), diodes are required (not included).
If you are using a mechanical doorbell (2 note sound. Like a mallet hitting a metal bar), no diode is needed.

This doorbell looks great. Beware this switch is not a surface mount. You need to recess the wire connection block in the back of the switch into the exterior house wall where the wire comes in.

Make sure you double-check the measurements. It is smaller than I wanted (my fault for not paying closer attention to the dimensions, so I’m not taking stars off). It is an attractive design. Easy to install.

I wanted a mid-century style lighted pushbutton and I found it. The metal is very rigid and of good quality. An improvement would be to offer a choice in the color temperature of the LED inside. It has a bright "cold" light but a warmer option would be an improvement for those of us with older homes. I covered the LED with a small piece of amber stage gel and made it perfect for my needs.

This door bell switch works. It seems hard to believe that with only two connections this works and lights up.I found during the install that the push button is easy to pop out (to the front side).I don't think it will be a big deal since after install people only push in on it.They do have a note about a diode that may be required for digital systems... this part is not provided or explained how and where it might be used.
