This is an exceptional primer that I used on my older deck with the hope that I would not need to replace the decking for a few more years. The product was applied very easily and washed up with water. The wood decking now has a new life. I HIGHLY recommend Rust-Oleum 312283 Deck Start Wood Primer!!! Worth every penny!

This primer goes on fast, cleanly & smooth. It is highly rated by everybody I've talked to. I used 2 coats, on my high traffic deck, just to ensure adhesion of the paint on the older, porous wood.

I was hesitant to order this product after reading reviews that the container leaked during shipment. Thankfully, Amazon has found a way to put special metal clips on the edge of the can that keep it tightly sealed during transport. In addition to the product being in perfect condition upon opening the box, I am extremely pleased with the job it did sealing and priming my old weathered deck. I did scrape loose paint off the deck before also washing it, but I did not go through the tedious work of sanding it down. This product was easy to roll on (I used a 3/4 deck roller) and it adhered to the wood well. It goes on looking like purple/blue glue. If I have one negative to note it is that the drying time takes much longer than stated. Maybe I applied too thick of a coat, but it took a full day to fully dry without any tack. Once it did, it had created an excellent, smooth surface to paint. I waited 3 days to paint to be on the safe side. I’m really happy to have found this product and will continue to use it as I paint another deck area at my home.

We are quite impressed with this. It goes on white and dries with a glossy clear look. It seemed to really seal the wood. We painted over it with no problem. We feel this was a good product and will certainly use again for future products.
