clear out tree roots from sewer line

Can't say whether it works because I just used it, but when they say no more than 2 pounds down the toilet at one time, believe them! I tried to "eyeball" the 4 pound container into two pours but I must've overdone the first pour because it foamed up and got all over the place. So if you need 4 pounds, I'd recommend buying two two pounders, or splitting after mixing but before pouring.

We have issues with scrub oak & pine tree roots getting into our ~75-year-old clay pipe drain line(s) going to our septic tank. We have the system scoped every few years and the line itself is fine. But the roots sneak in at the joints so we use a root killer at least once a year. ROOTX has worked the 'best' of the various brands we've tried. You do need to use as directed and have plenty of water at hand before you start using it. Otherwise, it'll 'foam' back out the cleanout opening! Killed a good-sized area of grass around the cleanout the 1st time I used it because I had 4, 2.5-gallon water carriers and couldn't pour the water in fast enough. (LOL) Now I use 2, 5-gallon carriers and have the 2nd one sitting 'ready to go' right next to me before I start pouring the ROOTX in.

I will give it 5 stars as it fairly easy to use, but I will not know for sure until a year passes as to whether it kept the roots out of my sewer line. Please remember that once you pour the mixture down your sewer line, have those four 5 gallon water containers filled up and ready to pour in because once you start pouring the water in, it immediately starts foaming and you need to keep pouring the water in until all of the water is emptied out of the containers. I bought the 4 pound container with the funnel (applicator) and it requires 5 gallons of water per pound.

Our basement backs up every couple of years because the roots grow into our main sewer line. When this happens we just call our plumber to come snake the drain. He said we could save our $400 bucks and just buy this every year. He said this is the stuff they recommend and use themselves in their personal homes. So I have been using this every year around the fall and so far no back up’s. I’m gonna continue use annually!! Affordable for when you know the issue and want to maintain the problem yourself as opposed to spending hundreds on a plumbe!

We have bought this several times over the past few years. We have a big old tree close to our sewer line and old clay pipes, the roots have grown into our sewer line and this is a good temporary fix till we can get things done more permanently later. We hear about it from our neighbor who also deals with the same problem, (our houses are over 80 years old) so we tried it. We pour it down our outdoor access hole and add 5 gallons of water to it. We don't use any water for at least 12 hour (while we sleep) and then we are good to go. It has kept us from having to call the plumbers to come clear our lines out for years now. It kills the roots in our lines so that our sewer water can more easily get to the main sewer line. I would recommend to anyone with the same issues we have. It is fast, safe when using gloves and a mask, and it doesn't have an odor that I noticed. Works really well!

I had Roto Rooter come out to snake out my drain about eight months ago. He informed me that he could not get all of the roots. That the next big rain storm. The basement most likely would flood again. He offered an expensive service to get rid of the roots. I decided to decline and do my own research. I came across this checking out reviews. I ordered this and followed the directions. Poured this down the main drain in the basement. Worked out great. No more flooding in the basement. Thumbs up for me.

I use it once per year per my plumber. It foams in the drain tiles, and touches the tree roots coming into the half flooded area. Other methods that are dissolved in the drain liquid won't reach up into the top of the pipe. Once a tree finds the pipe, it will continue to work back into it after having it routed. You mix per instruction, super easy. Pour it in, and fill with water. I calculated how far and what size pipe, and based my fill time via a garden hose's discharge rate, Mine comes out to 2 min 10 sec. I doubt accuracy is critical. Best done a a cleanout fitting closes to the last infiltration.
