I bought a Rock Tamer setup in prep for a 2500 mile tow, and I figured out I needed these to keep the rear exhaust from melting the rubber. Easily installed and everything survived. In my case the exhaust from about 8-9" from the Rock Tamer.Only glitch is that I realized that I needed 2 of these (dual exhaust on either side of truck), and I originally only ordered a single package. Sorta expensive when you need 2.

This didn’t keep my rock tammer mud flap from melting on my Duramax L5p. Buy an angled tip to redirect the exhaust

Bought these to protect our new bass boat. Works great especially when our tongue broke they kept the boat from damaging our truck. 😩

I have a GMC Sierra Duramax diesel. The exhaust warped and melted my first set of Rock Tamers, even with the heat shield in place. (Yes, I mounted them as far back as possible) The metal hardware used to attach the heat shield litteraly burned through the mud flap, eventually causing it to hang off and fall off. I ordered a replacement set of Rock Tamers and instead, I paid the local exhaust shop $55 to have my exhaust cut and welded at a sharper angle, no longer hitting my mudflaps at all. Now, I don't need the heat shield at all and have had zero issues. My advice, if you have a diesel truck, don't buy the heat shield. Spend the same amount of money and have the exhaust modified.
