About this item

  • Drilling - clear the damaged threads with a standard drill. (to repair a spark plug thread no pre-drilling is necessary if using the special spark plug tap), please pay attention that for fluteless taps bigger holes are required.
  • Checking - check that the thread and pitch of the tap and the bolt match.
  • Tapping - use the special taps for cutting the holding thread into the cleared hole (recommended to use a suitable cutting oil).
  • Install the insert - place insert on installation tool and position the adjustable ring so that the insert tang is centered in the tang slot. Wind the insert in with a light downward pressure until a half turn below the surface. Don't work against the thread direction as the tang could break.
  • Tang removal - After finishing lift the installation tool and use the tang break tool to remove the tang. For bigger sizes and spark plug taps use long nose pliers to remove the tang. Due to the narrow and exact tolerances the new thread normally is stronger than the original ones.

Instructions:

1.Drill out damaged thread using correctly sized drill bit(supplied)

2.Tap re-drilled hole using tap supplied

3.Load coiled insert into applicator

4.Screw coil into casting

5.Using lug breaking tool, break off tag on insert

6.Thread is repaired and ready to use

Package Included:

25 × Thread inserts

This kit helped me fix threads in a mountain bike frame with ease. This same kit was almost twice the cost at my local auto part store. It shipped quick, and in good condition. There was no packaging (not a big deal to me) and everything was in a zip lock bag which was nice and secure. Decent measure to take on saving money for the end customer. I dig it. :)

Needed to fix a couple of tapped holes in my dirt bike clutch cover. Followed the instructions and everything worked awesome. Great product.

Only usefull thing is the actual tap. The jury still out on the actual coils themselves. The insertion tool is garbage. For $10 ok but not the $15 it cost.No problem with seller shipped right away and no missing pieces.

Used this on my 2014 cruze timing cover valve cover bolt holes! If it dont make sense go to nxt review. Well the holes do have bottoms but definitely use a rag or towel to keep shavings out of oil or crank case. Keep them straight and they work perfectly. Torque to spec np. Good product.

The kit will work, but installation is not smooth. I use this to fix aluminum thread my oil cooler (which can be removed from cad) if you are in some tight area, don’t buy this.Installation tool is super weak I have to modify by myself. Tapping tool works but the diameter is just a tiny little bit smaller which makes the coil installation surprisingly hard (always cross thread).

Overall, la broca y el machuelo funcionan muy bien, el problema viene cuando se inserta la cuerta y hay que romperla. En lugar de romperse estira la cuerda en el inserto.

stripped a thread on an aluminum manifold - dang!!! This saved the day at a much lower cost than other brands. The kit includes a bunch (didn't count but looked like about 20) whereas more expensive kits I've bought only included one. Maybe not the best quality steel but plenty good enough

This set is just OK. I used them to repair the rocker arm bolts on my mower engine(kohler command). The tap and drill were great, I had zero problems using them in aluminum. The helicoil install tool is very cheaply made. It would bend slightly as I screwed in the helicoils and become stuck in the hole. The helicoils themselves were crimped in the wrong spot(just slightly off) so the tabs didn’t break off cleanly. I strongly recommend only screwing in the helicoils until they are just below the surface, that way you can remove them if the tab doesn’t break off right. Just pry up the top coil and pull them out to remove. Once the helicoils were installed, it’s hard to get your bolt screwed in because the top of the helicoil has sharp edges. At the end of the day these did work for me, but they were more trouble than name brand. If you’re determined to save money, just know that you’re making a gamble here.

Wasn't sure what to do when I stripped the threads on a mounting bracket on the engine of my truck while changing coil packs. Did some research and ran across this 'helicoil' technology. I needed a pretty small on (M5), and none of the local auto parts stores carried any that small. Found this set on Prime-Same Day delivery, and ordered it.It arrived as shown....no instructions whatsoever. Having watched a couple of YouTube videos on using helicoils for thread repair, it was pretty self explanatory. The kit comes with the coils, a drill bit, a tapping drill bit, a punch and the insertion tool. Instructions would be:1. Drill out the existing hole using the 'plain' drill bit.2. Tap the hole with the tapping bit to create some threads for the helicoil. A little cutting oil helps here (a drop or two).3. Blow or vacuum out any of the metal shavings from Steps 1 & 2.4. Place a coil on the end of the insertion tool, with the tang of the coil in the bottom slot on the tool. If you are working in a tight spot, or in a downward position, put a dab of grease on the tool. The stickiness will hold the coil on the tool.5. Screw the coil into the prepared hole. There is a set screw and collar on the tool you can use to set the insertion depth of the coil, if needed.6. Once at the desired depth (typically a turn or two below the lip of the hole), remove the tool, and insert the punch.7. Tap the punch with a hammer (gently) and break off the tang. Blow or vacuum the tang out if needed.8. Install your bolt as designed. All in, this took me about 10 minutes, and the bolt threaded in perfectly and locked in tight.
