The dual fabric is definitely helpful - one to absorb the water that might get spilled and the other to protect the floor. It is a little thin, but works well and functions as described.

I used this this Christmas instead of the traditional skirt that I’ve always had. Instead, I put this down to protect the hardwood floor and put the tree on top of it, then I used a tree collar… it worked great! This is a nice thick felt material and it actually slides across the floor with little effort, so it was nice putting lights up - we just spun the tree in place while wrapping the lights around and around

We used the mat for the first time today. While watering the Christmas tree, some water was spilled on it ...no big deal, the mat is "waterproof"...so we thought...the description of the mat plainly states it's waterproof. It absolutley IS NOT. I would not recommend this product...

This is a nice, simple, no frills base for the under the tree. It is thick and seems sturdy; would definitely protect our hard wood floors. However it was packaged in a very tight vacuum seal - and is extremely wrinkled. Because of the wrinkles, it looks a bit tacky under the tree due to its large size. Maybe it will look better with some gifts to hide its imperfections - but standing alone, it looks quite cheap.

I usually use a trash bag on the floor under the tree to protect our wood floors from tree stand scratches and spills that occur when watering. Nobody sees the bag because it's hidden by the tree skirt and the tree itself, but I saw this mat and thought I'd give it a try this year. The mat arrived folded and vacuum packed. It felt very hard within the package, almost inflexible. When I opened the package and removed the mat, I immediately noted that it has a lot of heavy creases from being folded (it's definitely not smooth like the photo on the website). Okay, I guess I'll just have to iron it with a damp towel - but why? Couldn't they have rolled it up instead? The creases are so deep that laying it out flat and hoping the creases dissipate over time will be fruitless. The mat is thick and stiff, unlike regular felt. I tried looking at the edges to see if something was sandwiched between both sides of the felt, but didn't see anything but red and green felt. It is apparent that the felt should protect the floor from scratches but would it really protect from water? I tested the mat by placing a towel below it and spilling about an 6 inch circle of water on top. It was clear that it was wet because the color darkened; the water pooled at first, but then it started being absorbed by the felt. I waited about an hour or so and checked it again - the color had returned to normal and to the touch the spot was only slightly damp. I have no clue where the water went but the bottom of the mat and the towel below were dry.All in all, I think this mat will provide the protection needed. However, there must be a better way to package this mat so that customers don't have to go through the effort of ironing it to get it flat. Plus, can it be ironed? Who knows what material/chemical is keeping this felt so stiff and absorbent so maybe directions on how to do it properly would be helpful. In the description they mention rolling it up for storage after use, so why don't they send it rolled up? I subtracted a star for the way this product was packaged/folded.

i feel better knowing this floor protector is under our tree, making sure any drips from watering the tree aren't harming our hardwood floors. i love that it is green on one side and red on the other.

Yes this will protect your floor from scratches. It looks nice also. It will only protect your floor against a very minor splash of liquid. Anything more than that soaks completely through and is now sitting on your wood floor trapped. I will have to put plastic under this which kinda defeats the whole purpose.
